National Water Resources Authority

The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) is a statutory organization established by the Water Resources Act of 2013 with a specific function to regulate and manage water
resources. Furthermore, the NWRA seeks to ensure the sustainable use of water resources
and address the water resources planning, development and management challenges.

In its effort to sustainably manage water resources, the NWRA seeks to recruit energetic,
highly motivated, focused and result-oriented individuals to form part of its NWRA members of staff. In this regard, NWRA invites applications from suitable qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position:

Purpose of the Job
To administer and coordinate programs and activities relating to groundwater resources management and conservation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Prepare reports describing research results, including illustrations, appendices, maps, and other attachments.
    2. Design and conduct scientific hydrogeological investigations to ensure that accurate and appropriate information is available for use in water resource management decisions.
    3. Utilize the research findings to help minimize the environmental impacts of pollution, water-borne diseases, erosion, and sedimentation.
    4. Measure and graph phenomena such as groundwater levels, stream flows, and changes in aquifer volumes wherever possible
    5. Conduct research and communicate information to promote the conservation and preservation of groundwater resources
    6. Study and analyze the physical aspects of the Earth in terms of the hydrogeological components;
    7. Install, maintain, and calibrate instruments such as those that monitor groundwater levels
    8. Answer questions and provide technical assistance and information to contractors and/or the public regarding issues such as well drilling, code requirements and  geology.
    9. Compile and evaluate hydrogeological information in order to prepare geophysical reports and bulletins
    10. Study and document quantities, distribution, disposition, and development of groundwater in various catchment areas.
    11. Investigate complaints or conflicts related to the alteration of public waters, gathering information, recommending alternatives, informing participants of progress, and preparing draft orders.
    12. Prepare hydrogeological evaluations of known or suspected hazardous waste sites and land treatment and feedlot facilities.
    13. Collect and analyze water samples as part of field investigations and/or to validate data from automatic monitors.

Minimum Qualifications and Work Experience

    • Bachelor of Science in water resource management, hydrogeology, engineering or any water related field
    • Minimum of four (4)years’ work experience on similar position. Those with experience in groundwater resources modelling will have an added advantage.

Additional Skills and Abilities

    • Self-starter, responsible and with good communication skills
    • A team player
    • Should have undergone training in hydrogeology and environmental and social impact assessments
    • Analytical and problem solving skills
    • Computer knowledge in GIS and MS packages
    • Able to work long hours with minimal supervision
