Children of the Nations is a duly registered NGO in Malawi with a mission to raise children who transform Nations. It partners with nationals to provide Christ-centered care for orphaned and destitute children, enabling them to create a positive and lasting change in their nations. In order to fulfil its vision effectively and excellently, opportunity has risen to engage qualified person of Malawian origin to fill post tenable at its head office in Lilongwe. COTN therefore, invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the position on a two-year contract renewable upon successful performance appraisals and availability of funds.

Position : Head Teacher (Primary)

Position Summary

To partner with Children of the Nations Malawi National Education Coordinator to provide quality school leadership, management, and administration, and implement the Malawi Primary curriculum as stipulated by Ministry of Education and COTN Standards of Service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide school leadership in partnership with the Deputy Head Teacher
  • Participate in technical meetings and prepare budgets for his or her section.
  • Participating in planning, organizing, budgeting, and reviewing progress on education goals.
  • To ensure that the school has a functional committee such as Discipline Committee, Staff Social Welfare, and PTA.
  • Ensure the availability of discipline policy, and daily student discipline is monitored.
  • Planning, teaching, and preparing appropriate lessons in accordance with Education SOS.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on the progress and attainment of learners.
  • The Head Teacher must understand the child protection policy, Teacher Code of Conduct, Attendance policy, and School Discipline policy of COTN, and help teachers put in practice all that is expected.
  • Providing guidance and advice to both the teachers and pupils on educational and social matters and making relevant records and reports.
  • Partnering with the Ministry of Education, local education players, the community and all stakeholders to provide best quality education.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competences

  • The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of a Diploma in Education and a proven experience of not less than 5 years on a similar position. Those with a Bachelor’s degree in Education with proven experience of not less than 2 years on a similar position will have an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively capture and convey corporate ideas.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and cross-cultural environment.
  • Knowledge and experience on implementing Child Protection Policy and working with Children from troubled backgrounds.
  • Emotionally stable, spiritually mature, honest, transparent, and sensitive to people
  • Experience and skills in using a computer, emailing, and training teachers is a MUST.
