Applications are invited from highly qualified, self-motivated, and experienced candidates to fill the following vacant position at Castel Malawi Limited (CML). The position is tenable at the CML Head Office in Blantyre.
Position: Head of IT
Purpose of the Job
  • To provide the overall leadership of the company ICT Systems, applications, staff, and operations to support the business strategy and ambition.
  • To ensure complete alignment of the IT Strategy, IT governance, and IT Security with Castel’s Group IT ruling entity policies

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop the overall company IT Strategy both internal capacity and outsourced requirements.
  • Collect and study the needs expressed by the company’s business divisions, then evaluate and recommend the suitable investments considering their effectiveness and risk control.
  • Lead IT projects through steering and validation meetings, in conjunction with project managers, and the company’s business departments.
  • Organize the IT department in an optimal way: creation of different levels of management, coordination of study functions, support/operation functions and proper reporting to management.
  • Act as the link between the Castel Malawi IT Department and the Group IT management.
  • Integrate legal and environmental standards into the management of IT projects.
  • Develop and implement IT Security policy of the company’s computer systems and electronic data in collaboration with the general management of the company and the Group IT entity.
  • Champion the IT improvement initiatives designed both locally and those nurtured by the Group IT.
  • Evaluate the return on investment of the IT projects carried out and report to Castel Malawi management.
  • Lead and manage the IT Department and staff through SLAs with client departments.
  • Ensure and optimize the supervision of the « Helpdesk » incident and user requests
  • Monitor the effectiveness of subcontractors’ achievements and services throughout the contractual relationship.
  • Guarantee the continuity, integrity, confidentiality, availability and responsiveness of the IT and telecoms service provided to users
  • Adhere to Health, Safety & Environmental requirements of Malawi and, Castel Malawi Limited in all areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure a technological and legal watch on developments in the IS sector
  • Anticipate and organize against the Country’s difficulties (energy, equipment, operator instabilities, supplies, etc.)
  • Design and optimal organization of the company’s information flows.
Qualifications and knowledge
  • Post Graduate Degree or First Degree in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any related field with not less than 5 years’ of experience in a similar role in a busy environment.
  • Member of the ICT Association of Malawi.

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to listen in functional and hierarchical relationships.
  • Good negotiation skills with internal staff (defining objectives, participating in the recruitment process) and with service providers (obtaining the product or service offering the best value for money for the company).
  • have good writing skills for formalizing contractual clauses and presenting the necessary changes to management.
  • Ability to motivate and explain decisions and demonstrate their validity to uninitiated (CEO, CFO, etc.)
  • Demonstrate good Technical References on data, operating systems, infrastructures, applications, and cloud base services management.
  • Have a good culture on Projects and Security Management.
