The Lilongwe Institute of Orthopedics and Neurosurgery (LION) is an autonomous not-for-profit institution managed by the LION Trust. LION functions as the orthopedic and neurosurgical department of Kamuzu Central Hospital and provide quality public and paying services in trauma, orthopedics, neurosurgery, with the goal of reducing the high level of disability and its economic impact on the people of Malawi, on the individual and on community level.

Haukeland House Manager

 

Period: Two (2) years, subject to extension

Responsible to: Finance Director

Job summary

Haukeland House manager will ensure proper running of LION Guest house. Primarily, he/she will oversee customer services, budgeting, accounting, human resources management and facility management for the guesthouse. He or she will lead Haukeland house team, provide supervisory role, ensure that they comply with high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, safety, security protocols, and oversee Haukeland house budget.

 

Specific Duties include but not limited to:

  • Ensuring excellent customer services for guests
  • Issuing bills to guests, recording receipts and payments
  • Producing management and financial report monthly
  • Collaborating with LION management team to develop HH budgets and plans for growth and sustainability
  • Responsible for stock taking and procurement
  • Managing guest house security and issuing remote alarms
  • Maintain accounts for the facility
  • Overseeing the daily operations of housekeeping staff including training, scheduling of work, and monitoring performance
  • Monitoring hospitality service, maintenance, gardening and housekeeping standards within the house
  • Creating schedules for cleaning personnel, including assigning tasks and setting deadlines for completion
  • Reviewing employee work performance to ensure that it meets standards of quality and efficiency
  • Ensuring safety regulations, such as wearing recommended wear is followed at all times
  • Ensuring cordial relationship with international partners
  • Maintaining good relationship with guests and suppliers
  • Maintaining good relationship with managers of other units
  • Reporting any faults or damages to the maintenance department as soon as possible
  • Listening to guests’ complaints and ensure that the complaints are addressed efficiently and effectively
  • Managing the inventory of all supplies and equipment, ordering supplies as needed, and maintaining records of supplies used
  • Managing inventory of linen, towels and other basic items
  • Conducting regular inspections of work areas to ensure that they are clean and safe
  • Stand-in for any member of staff that is unavailable to carry out their duties in order to prevent any unfilled gap where necessary
  • Ensuring dirty laundry are cleaned, ironed, folded and stored
  • Ordering supplies for the HH
  • Ensuring efficient use of departmental resources
  • Ensuring all equipment is in proper working condition and make arrangements for repairs as needed
  • Performing all other related assigned duties.

Qualification and experience

  • Bachelors’ degree in Business administration, Hospitality Management or its equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar environment and supervisory role from the Hospitality/Service industry.
  • Applicants should be excellent leaders, detail-oriented, and demonstrate a commitment to customer service
