ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION 

Established in 2019, Wona Collective is a feminist women-led arts collective, media production company and communications consultancy based in Lilongwe, Malawi. Our vision as Wona is to have more documented stories of Malawians created by Malawians, particularly stories that are often erased or left untold: the stories of women and marginalised groups. To fulfil our vision, we use arts and media to create and curate content on women and marginalized groups.

In 2023, the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) contracted Wona Collective to be their communications partner for the Malawi Youth Landscape and Learning Platform (YLLP), an activity under the global USAID-funded Youth Excel program.

JOB PURPOSE

With the support and guidance of the Wona Collective Directors, the Graphic Designer will primarily lead on graphic design for the YLLP program. The Graphic Designer will be expected to create graphic design materials that are in line with the YLLP brand guidelines for the duration of the YLLP program. The Graphic Designer will also support on graphic design on other Wona Collective projects, both in-house and client commissions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop initial concepts for graphics through mood boards or process work
  • Report to Senior Communications Officer to produce communications assets for YLLP Program
  • Report to Wona Collective Directors to produce communications assets for Wona Collective projects
  • Act as primary photographer for YLLP events
  • Produce Photography assets for YLLP events
  • Work alongside illustrator to produce deliverables
  • Support on the development of social media campaigns
  • Support in the development of communications strategies and plans
  • Produce quality visibility material:
    • Posters
    • Booklet designs
    • Logos
    • Brand guidelines
    • Merchandise designs (bags, pens, tshirts, banners, backdrops)
    • Livestream designs
    • Powerpoint Slide Deck designs

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Software (Illustrator, InDesign & Photoshop)
  • Excellent knowledge of design principles (color, balance, hierarchy, scale, contrast, pattern, movement and rhythm, emphasis, unity)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

DESIRABLE

EXPERIENCE 

3 years’ relevant work experience in a subject area or a specialized field.
