The Hunger Project (THP) is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. Our programs throughout Africa, South Asia and Latin America are based on an innovative, holistic approach, which empowers women and men living in rural villages to become the agents of their own development and make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger and poverty. The Hunger Project Malawi, a branch of the Global Hunger Project has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently operating programs and projects in nine districts; Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba.

The Hunger Project (THP) Malawi is inviting applications from eligible and qualified individuals to fill the following vacant position;

Job Title: Grants Partnerships and Advocacy Coordinator (1)

PURPOSE, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Purpose of the Job

The primary purpose of this position is to lead development and implementation of resource mobilization strategy for THP-Malawi, build effective partnerships with local governments. private sector and civil society in Malawi deyeloo and recularly update the Country Proaramme fundina matrix and ensure high standard donor management requirements. The job holder works in close collaboration with THP-Malawi proaramme and finance teams. The job holder also supports partner countries in development of proposals

Key duties and Responsibilities

  • Resource Mobilization and Fundraising;
  • Leading in the development and implementation of a Fundraising Strategy and Annual Fundraising Plans for THP-Malawi Country programme.
  • Conducting regular donor scoping and supporting the country programme to secure new funding streams for projects. Ensuring effective practices in management of existing, new and prospective donors are in place. Supporting THP-Malawi’s epicenters in initiating and coordinating fundraising campaigns and events and maximize the potential for new opportunities for epicenter income generation.
  • Providing guidance and quality assurance support for funding proposals development and donor reports. Ensuring effective implementation of THP-Malawi’s Visibility and Communication Strategy.
  • Donor Contracts\grants Management
  • Ensuring effective operational planning and budget setting in line with donor contractual agreements.
  • Maintaining an effective contract management system for the Country Programme, including management of all critical donor contract information and reporting processes by ensuring that he/she is working with program team and finance personnel to produce donor reports well aligned with agreed quality standards
  • Assisting THP-Malawi staff and its partners in understanding and conforming to specific donor requirements in all aspects of project implementation, management and monitoring.
  • Organizing and coordinating donor visits liaising between programme staff and member fundraisers to ensure the visits are of high standard.
  • Collaborating with Head of Finance and Country Manager in ensuring updates of the Country’s Programme funding matrix.
  • Generating, organizing and sharing relevant donor intelligence to facilitate effective management of donor grants
  • Providing support in the negotiation of donor agreements and their clearance by The Hunger Project Country Manager
  • Reviewing, monitoring and documenting donor funding, policies and trends and their implications on THP-Malawi
  • Contributing to the development of publications and communications materials which have relevance to meeting fundraising and donor relations objectives.
  • Contributing to strategic discussions as they relate to resource mobilization and allocation and determination of investment priorities
  • Strategic Partnership building
  • Leading the development of effective partnerships with local governments
  • Leading development of partnerships with the private sector
  • Proactively flag to the Country Manager any gaps in capacity needs to meet funder requirements.
  • Ensuring capacity needs of the Hunger Project staff and partners are met in order to enable each programme to effectively manage their fundraising activities and donor reporting requirements.
  • Advocacy, and Movement for Community Led Development
  • Leading the development of THP-Malawis Advocacy Strategy and its implementation
  • Providing leadership to Malawi’s (LD Chapter)
  • Ensuring that all activities and collaborations are in line with THPS principles and are such that they uphold or enhance our positive reputation.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social sciences, Agricultural Economics/Agribusiness or its equivalent. Those with Masters degree will have added advantage.

Work Experience (Minimum needed)

  • Minimum Required: At least 5 ears of experience as a compliance, donor relations and\/or grant manager or similar role Preferred: experience in non-profit setting with remote team structure, and experience in a fast-paced environment.

Specialized Knowledge Needed for Job Performance

  • Proficiency with MS Office i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint High level of knowledge with Google Suite and tools;
  • Skills (e.g., Level of Judgment Required, Work Independently, Multi-Task,
  • Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment:
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Resourceful self-starter with ability to independently multi-task and prioritize.
  • Representational skills induding experience in developing relationships with government and donor’s agencies at senior level.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and secure new funds and the skills necessary to build and sustain existing relationships with foundations, individuals, corporations and statutory/multilateral donors.
  • Ability to plan own work, setting priorities and completing them, including ability to work under pressure and to work with minimum supervision.
  • Strong analytical thinking

  • High level of confidentiality;
  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Ability to travel domestically in rural communities
