FOOD FACTORY MACHINE OPERATOR

Morning Star Foods Company is an emerging food processing and packaging company in Lilongwe, engaged in processing, packaging and marketing locally produced foods, conserving their nutritive values and harnessing Malawi’s agriculture value-addition sector. A career opportunity has arisen for the position of Machine Operator.

Job purpose

The successful candidate will ensure the efficient and safe functioning of machinery used in the processing and packaging of food products while maintaining product quality and meeting production targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate machinery used in food processing and packaging.
• Set up machines prior to production and perform regular checks to ensure optimal operation.
• Monitor the production line to detect any issues or malfunctions.
• Adjust machine settings, such as speed and temperature, as needed.
• Perform quality checks on products to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work area in line with food safety regulations.
• Record production data, including output, downtime, and maintenance logs.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and liaise with machine manufacturers for support.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and food hygiene practices.
• Work collaboratively with production staff to meet daily targets.

Qualifications, Experience, Attributes, Skills and Knowledge

• Full Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) plus vocational training or certification in machine operation from an accredited institution.
• At least 3 years hands-on experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment.
• Ability to operate and understand technical machinery, both mechanical and computerised.
• Attention to detail and ability to spot defects or equipment malfunctions.
• Basic mechanical, electronic and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with computer applications; able to use the internet to find solutions to machine problems.
• Willingness to work in shifts, including nights and weekends, if required.
• Self-starter, fast learner, able to work with minimal supervision.
• High level of honesty and integrity.
