Job title: Finance Officer

Position Summary: The finance officer will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial resources of the company, ensuring compliance with tax laws, and providing expert tax-related advice to clients and employees. The Finance Officer will also be responsible for conducting in-depth research on Malawi’s tax system, policies, and regulations to optimize tax benefits for our organization.
Major Responsibilities
- Assist in day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations, under the guidance of senior finance officers.
- Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, by gathering and organizing financial data.
- Drive process improvement and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce risk in financial operations.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations, with oversight from senior finance officers.
- Conduct research on Malawi’s tax laws, regulations, and policies to provide accurate and up-to-date tax advice
- Analyze financial records and tax-related information to identify tax-saving opportunities and minimize tax liabilities
- Provide tax planning advice to clients and assist with tax audits and disputes
- Keep abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide proactive tax advice
- Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders regarding tax matters and provide clear explanations of tax issues
Work Conditions
The finance will work in a demanding and fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. The position will require frequent communication with tax policy experts (both internally & externally) and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
Educational Requirement & Work Experience
- Candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, law or a related field.
- They should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong understanding of the Malawi’s tax system, including direct and indirect taxes
- Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax data and regulations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present research findings to diverse audiences
- Knowledge of international best practices in tax policy and administration

- The incumbent must be committed to the meeting of all reporting deadlines which may require working out of normal hours from time to time.
