THP-Malawi has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently running programs and projects in the following districts: Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba.

FINANCE MANAGER

Position Summary

The Position reports to the Head of Finance and Administration (HOFA) and supports all Project
Accountants in the day-to-day management of the project finances, preparation of monthly financial
reports to Global Office, review of donor reports, provision of information to program staff on fund
utilization, and supervision of daily transactions.

Essential Functions

  • Support in developing and maintaining the financial systems and ensure that there is strong
    internal controls in the work place
  • Support the preparation of annual consolidated THP financial statements.
  • Ensure donor reports are produced on time by Project Accountants, reviewed by Head of Finance
    and submitted to the donor per the reporting charter.
  • Ensure proper recording of financial transactions in Sage Intacct System by Project Accountants
  • Coordinate the compilation of monthly financial reporting as required by Global Office (monthly
    general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, cashflow projections) from Project Accountants and submitting to Head of Finance for review.
  • Support in annual budgeting processes and budget platform management
  • Support in coordinating the external audit processes
  • Be the focal contact to Project Accountants on their daily tasks and support the team in planning
    their weekly requests
  • To ensure compliance of taxes with Malawi Revenue Authority and Tevet levy with TEVETA by
    remitting on time to the authorities.
  • Work closely with Human Resource Manager in the preparation of monthly payroll
  • Maintain and update fixed asset register and ensure that assets are insured, and premiums are
    paid on time;
  • Check monthly bank reconciliations prepared by Project Accountants;
  • Scrutinize and support payment requests and processing of payments, ensuring proper support
    documentation is attached. Check all liquidations are done on time as stipulated in the policy and fully signed by all parties

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Minimum qualification is ACCA plus a Bachelor’s Degree and a certified Accountant recognized
    by ICAM with excellent analytical skills with Vast knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in finance or similar role in Non-profit setting with remote team structure, and experience in a fast-paced environment with a small team
  • Proficiency with Spreadsheets, and advance knowledge of Excel and good knowledge of sage
    accounting software
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with ability to work with colleagues and partners
    nationally and internationally
  • Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Resourceful self-starter with ability to independently multi-task and prioritize
  • High level of confidentiality.
