We are looking for a Finance Manager to a provide oversight on the day to day operations in the Finance department by ensuring that PSI Malawi’s accounting system remains robust so as to maintain integrity of the data and reports produced therefrom, and is in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles; further to ensure that the day to day financial activities that feed into final financial reports are accurately and timely done. The jobholder will coordinate cash flow projections, being the lead person for risk management and responsible for all audits including Management Action Plans (MAPs). Work in collaboration with the grants management team to provide financial performance reports to management and budget holders.

Your contributions

  • Oversee the day to day maintenance of sound accounting systems to ensure that it gives reasonable assurance that the records and controls are sufficient to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial information for expenditure monitoring and reporting; proving guidance and supervision in the production of accurate management accounts for use in decision making by Senior Management.
  • Ensure transactions are timely and accurately captured and are in compliance with existing controls, donor regulations and local legislation (e.g. computation and remittance of taxes)
  • Take a lead in designing, reviewing and assisting the Head of Finance and Operations to update the Common Direct Cost allocation policy, getting it approved on an annual basis or as when changes are made and ensuring strict adherence during every month-end reporting.
  • Continuously conduct process improvement reviews, and recommend, where necessary, the possible policy and procedural changes to enhance efficiency
  • Take a lead in risk management, i.e. identify emerging financial risks in the day to day financial processes and recommend to the Head of Finance and Operations on controls that would help mitigate such risks while advising management of the existing risks as already recorded in the organizational and/or departmental risk registers.
  • Lead in capacity building initiatives for Finance in particular and all staff in general ensuring their level of competency is aligned to their roles.
  • Manage all audits; audit planning; support audit ground work, engage all relevant stakeholders in the course of the audit and coordinating timely provision of information as requested by the Auditors to ensure audits are completed on time and ensure that Management Actions Points (MAPs) for all audits are carried out within 90 days of the end of the audit

What are we looking for?

  • A chartered accountant with ACCA, CIMA, ICAM or any recognized institution plus a Masters degree in Finance, Administration, Economics or any other field
  • At least seven (7) years of continuous experience in Finance & Accounting in a busy environment with multiple donor funding streams, of which a minimum of five (5) years must have been in a management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of, and experience in managing donor funding. Experience working with International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) preferred.
  • Proven sound and solid leadership capability, with an ability to lead big teams.
