Overview
Focus on Ability Society (FOAS) is a youth led and growing Malawian non-profit making organisation with headquarters in Blantyre. FOAS was founded in 2016 and got registered by Malawi Government in 2019 under the Trustees Incorporation Act (CAP. 5:03). Since 2017, every year FOAS runs the Disability awareness programme popularly known as Focus on Ability Short Film Festival. The organisation works in the focal areas of Disability, Women and Youth social economic empowerment, Health and Behavioral Change, Gender Equality, Agribusiness. In its all programmes, the organisation believes in the incorporation of multimedia and documentary-filmmaking to raise awareness and inspire the communities by telling stories about abilities of people with disability and other marginalised people in Malawi.

To expand its programming and kick start new gender equality programme, the following exciting and challenging job openings have arisen:

Finance and Administration Officer (1 post)

Description:
This is a crucial managerial position and the incumbent will oversee and head the finance and administration department of the organisation, support human resource tasks as delegated by the Executive Director, information management for donor projects, advisory role on financial matters, produce reports to board, management and donors, bank reconciliation, staff induction on policies and other HR issues. He or she must devote his/herself of being part and parcel in the development and nurturing the organisation. The position will demand the Finance and Administration Officer to carry out financial and HR roles for both donor funded projects and the organisation’s profit-making partners.

Duties:

Budgeting– formulating budgets, review of projects, forecasts for budgets, budgetary control both internal and external, development of tools and system and budgeting, requisitions.
Reporting – submit timely financial reports to management, board and donors and projects staff based on agreed timelines, responding to queries on financial reports preparation for monthly implementation reports comparing budgets vs actual.
Information management- taking charge of management donor files, ensuring all information is filed, developing filling system of donor documents, updating donor contract files for grants.
Grant management– contributing to timely implementation of grant opening and grant closing requirements, ensuring adherence to grant guide lines
Program support- support proposal and budget development process
Compliance- monitoring and check compliance of programs with donor requirements including procurement regulations budget allocations and dissemination of guidelines, taxation and other statutory obligations.
Qualifications:

Degree in Financial Accounting or any relevant field from recognised institution
Strong experience in accounting for donor funds in a busy NGO environment and also experience in profit making.
Strong knowledge in accounting packages including (Quick Books, SAGE, etc)
Strong knowledge of taxation and employment related legislation
Strong computer knowledge in Microsoft office and other packages a MUST
Two or more years’ experience in nonprofit/ donor management and accounting procedures and systems.
