VACANCY: FIELDWORK COUNSELLOR

Position: Fieldwork Counsellor

Institution: Centre for Educational Research and Training (CERT)

Duration: 3 to 4 weeks starting on October 14th.

The Centre for Educational Research and Training (CERT) specialises in conducting research in education and related fields. It is under the School of Education at the University of Malawi and carries out policy oriented research and consultancies in education to inform the Government (particularly the Ministry of Education), donor agencies and NGOs interested in education and related fields.
CERT is looking to hire 16 counsellors who will support a research project on children’s safety in and around school.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend 6-day training sessions on project objectives, protocols and safeguarding guidelines.
  • Provide counselling support to children aged 8 to 12 years during a period of 3 to 4 weeks in any of the following districts: Chitipa, Mzimba, Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Zomba, Blantyre and Mangochi. The counselling support consists of first aid guidance.
  • Reporting to the necessary authorities when needed while following the project referral process.
  • Complete daily monitoring forms.
  •  Complete weekly reports and final reports.
  • Attending weekly follow-up meetings with supervisors.
  • Support any activities related to the role.

The successful candidates will have the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • Undergraduate (Bachelors) degree in Psychology, Social Work or related discipline.
  • Experience in providing counselling to children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge of the social protection system in Malawi is preferred.
  • Flexibility to be based in one of the following locations for up to 4 weeks: Chitipa, Mzimba, Lilongwe, Dedza, Ntcheu, Zomba, Blantyre and Mangochi.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Strong organizational skills, communication and writing skills.
