Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO)

Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered nongovernmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to complement Government’s efforts in in the fight against HIV and AIDS and other health related issues.

MACRO’s Vision is Malawi populace free of ill-Health” and its Mission is “Transform lives of Malawians through provision of high-quality HIV and AIDS, and other health related services”.

With funding from USAID through FHI360, MACRO is bridging gaps to maintain HIV epidemic control. MACRO has received funding to implement activities to ensure the prevention of Gender Based violence amongst AGYWs aged 25-29 years in Lilongwe Urban. The program will use the Start, Awareness, Support and Action (SASA) approach, an evidence-based community mobilization approach to prevent violence against women.

Therefore, MACRO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position in Lilongwe.

Job Summary

The DREAMS Field Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful implementation and coordination of the program in the field. Working closely with the Program Manager, the Field Officer will oversee and facilitate activities at the grassroots level in the district.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Community Development, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine, Psychiatric Nursing, or any other health-related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with the DREAMS program.
  • Training in LIVES gender-based violence response is an added advantage.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HIV and AIDS prevention, counseling and testing, and behavior change interventions.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution and management skills.

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and supervise DREAMS outreach workers to ensure efficient program delivery.
  • Build partnerships with other organizations and engage with relevant community structures to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) using the SASA approach.
  • Conduct capacity-building sessions for program staff, community leaders, activists, and key stakeholders on GBV.
  • Follow up on all referrals made, ensuring that clients receive the necessary services and that data is accurately captured for those accessing HIV/SRH services and post-GBV care.
  • Foster a strong working relationship with healthcare workers from nearby health facilities, outreach workers, and project SASA facilitators.
  • Provide risk assessment and risk reduction counseling, as well as facilitate health education sessions for clients who have experienced GBV.
  • Develop and implement outreach plans, ensuring the achievement of performance indicators across the assigned area as per the program work plan.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the project is adequately stocked with commodities and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
  • Document lessons learned and challenges encountered to inform program decisions.
  • Submit timely reports to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer and Programme Manager.
  • Attend all quarterly coordination meetings in the implementing district.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of cash advances.
