Background

In August 2021, United Purpose and Self-Help Africa (UP/SHA) merged at a Global Level. In Malawi the country programmes have merged together under one organogram. The merger of United Purpose and Self-Help Africa has given us a unique opportunity to create an organisation built on our shared values and ideals and one that draws on our collective experience, knowledge and skills to expand and improve our work across the countries we work in. This is never more evident than in Malawi as it is also the only country where both UP and SHA operate.

 

 

Job purpose:
Field Facilitators are responsible for the community mobilization and delivery of different project activities. The Field Facilitator would also be responsible for producing activity, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on project activities. UP/SHA is looking for field facilitators for a number of projects focusing on climate smart agriculture, food and nutrition security and rural entrepreneurship. 

Key duties and responsibilities

    • Work closely with local leadership and entire communities to initiate project activities, establish work targets and ensure that set targets are achieved.
    • Compile and submit activity, weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual reports and annual reports on activities implemented.
    • Participate together with other staff in regular planning, review, and coordination of project activities, suggesting adjustments where necessary.
    • Identify problem areas in the field concerning project implementation and recommend useful solutions for the project.
    • Facilitate assessment, monitoring and evaluation in the field sites in accordance with project benchmarks and indicators; this may include the use of digital M&E tools.
    • Work with district staff to organise project activities which may include field days and other publicity forums to promote different technologies and best practices.
    • Ensure that issues of gender, climate change, social inclusion, nutrition and sustainability are incorporated.
    • Identify and document best practices and case studies for sharing and learning with other partners, donors and SHA/UP HQ.

Minimum Requirements

    • Diploma in Rural/Community Development, Natural Resource Management or Agriculture Extension.
    • 4 years’ experience in implementing rural development projects including any of the following: climate smart agriculture, food and nutrition security and rural entrepreneurship. A high level of understanding of project cycle management approaches, project appraisal, monitoring and evaluation and partners’ capacity building.
    • Experience in budgeting and development of monthly work-plans.

Required skills

    • Ability to work in rural community in implementing programmes
    • Ability to work as part of team across different cultures.
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision and take initiative.
    • Ability to solve problems and take corrective action.
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and analytical/problem-solving abilities.
