Bickia Horticulture Enterprises

Bickia enterprises are budding companies in agribusiness (Bickia Horticulture Enterprises, with farms in Mchinji and Salima) and soon commencing operations in cement production (Bickia Cement). The two companies would like to employ the positions listed below all based in Lilongwe. The cement related positions are in anticipation of Bickia Cement obtaining a mining licence. The agribusiness company is already in operation.

Farms Manager

Reports to:

Chief Executive Officer

Role purpose:

Managing the three farms in the Enterprise: from the core crop husbandry and animal husbandry as well as finances, people and resources.

Role and Responsibilities

·      Lead on agribusiness strategy: identifying agribusiness issues to be addressed for the Enterprise to deliver.

·         Identify opportunities for additional business value through effective agri marketing solutions.

·         Manage resources at the farms including human, financial and material

·         Supervise staff, monitoring crops and animals, and handle various administrative tasks.

·         Prepare budgets, maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders, and ensure maximum profitability.

·         Analyze existing operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial documents and recommend improvements.

·         Prepare plans and schedules for planting and harvesting and ensure staff understand expectations.

·         Visit different divisions to inspect crops, livestock, and also perform tests on soil and water.

·         Ensure right seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked.

·         Schedule repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.

·         Handle the marketing and sale of products produced on the farm like fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, and grain.

·         Ensure all staff adhere to health and safety regulations.

·         Assist with the recruitment and training of new staff members.

·         Collaborate with senior staff to prepare budgets and financial reports.

·         Build professional networks and keep abreast of developments in agricultural science.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in agriculture, animal science, or equivalent. Additional courses in business management or administration are recommended.

Experience And Skills

  • Five years at senior officer level; or 3 years at manager level and 2 years at officer level in a busy crop and or animal husbandry sector
  • Extensive experience in a farming-related field.
  • Excellent analytical skills – ability to analyse complex data and design and produce effective management information
  • Progressive responsibility in administrative services or programme support operations
  • Strong organizational and management experience/skills including problem solving;
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to contribute to strategic decisions
  • Knowledge of irrigation farming
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to make decisions in stressful environments.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Have sufficient knowledge in fuel operated machinery.
  • Have sufficient knowledge in accountancy and book keeping.
