Position: Executive Director – For Equality Africa

Location: Lilongwe, Malawi

Duration: 3 years (Renewable)

Introduction

For Equality Africa is seeking an innovative and dynamic leader to fill the position of Executive Director. As the senior executive of For Equality, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing gender equality, women’s rights, and social justice. The Executive Director will lead the organization in implementing its mission and vision, working closely with the Board of Governance to drive impactful change.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership and Management:

  • Provide visionary leadership to achieve For Equality Africa’s mission and vision.
  • Develop and implement innovative, long-term strategic plans in collaboration with the Board and staff.
  • Ensure that programs align with overall goals and adhere to feminist principles.
  • Oversee the organizational structure, policies, and processes to effectively achieve strategic objectives.
  • Lead personnel and human resource matters, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Manage operational and financial matters, ensuring compliance with legal and governance requirements.

Fundraising and Resource Mobilization:

  • Lead resource mobilization efforts, including identifying potential donors and cultivating partnerships.
  • Diversify funding sources for financial sustainability.
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure transparent financial functionality.

Partner Engagement and Board Support:

  • Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of For Equality’s programs.
  • Maintain confidence among donors in the organization’s operations.
  • Report to the Board on operational, administrative, and financial aspects at each meeting.
  • Communicate Board decisions to staff and stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain relations with governmental and non-governmental bodies.
  • Represent For Equality with external stakeholders to build effective partnerships.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Eligibility Criteria

  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years work experience in a managerial position or Executive Director role.
  • Proven leadership roles in gender equality, women’s rights, or social justice organizations.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Track record as a senior manager of diverse non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in building and strengthening organizational culture.
  • Exposure to various partnership models and HR management.
  • Strong understanding of feminist principles, human rights, and gender issues.
  • Knowledge of African regional and international human rights frameworks is an advantage.

  • Exceptional operational management skills.
  • Strong advocacy and representation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills, ethical standards, and integrity.
  • Comfort with diverse cultures and groups.
  • Ability to work with a multi-constituency Board.

Term of Appointment and Performance Expectations:
