The Malaria Alert Centre (MAC) is a research unit under the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences that works with Ministry of health, local and international health agencies to address priority health problems in Malawi and the SADC region through operational and evidence synthesis research, capacity building and training, health care systems strengthening, disease surveillance, and monitoring and impact evaluation in communicable diseases including malaria, HIV, vaccine preventable diseases and Neglected tropical diseases.

MAC is inviting applications from suitably qualified and enthusiastic individuals to fill various positions as detailed below on our Malaria Vector Competence project that seeks to better understand the persistence of malaria in Malawi by conducting community-based studies and collecting data in Health Centres.

 

 

ENUMERATOR (BLANTYRE) – 1 POSITION

Position summary

The Enumerator will conduct community and health centre based research activities in and around health centres in Blantyre district.

Duration of Contract: The initial contract will be for 6 months with possibility of further extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conducting informed consent with potential study participants
  • Assist with planning of study activities, including recruitment and participant visits
  • Conducting interviews and using tablets for electronic data capture
  • Maintaining coherent records of daily activities and provide updates to team members
  • Assisting with sample organization, storage, and tracking
  • Regular report writing
  • Assisting with team organization and planning
  • Coordinating and working closely with local health centre staff and community leaders on study activities
  • Any other related duties as seen fit by the principal investigator and team leader

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of diploma in community development or social science
  • More than three years experience in field surveys
  • Prior experience with tablet-based data collection and long duration fieldwork
  • Experience in community engagement and working in a busy research setting
  • Ability to work in a team and cultivate team spirit
  • Demonstrable track record of hardworking spirit, integrity and discipline

REMUNERATION

The position will attract a salary with benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications as applicable to contract staff in the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. KUHES is an equal opportunity employer.
