Mayankho Malawi
Mayankho supports aspiring business owners in rural Malawi to launch, sustain, and scale micro-enterprises into sustainable businesses. We prioritise applicable education and skills development, belonging to an enabling community, and ensuring capital support, to support community members through the earliest years of building a business. Our structured four-year program supports cohorts of micro-entrepreneurs in Mulanje, Malawi. To date, Mayankho has supported 85 community members, 75 of whom are female, to launch sustainable ventures. Mayankho will now change our focus by building our education program.
We are hiring an Entrepreneurship Teacher to teach the Mayankho community a hybrid curriculum of entrepreneurship and financial management. Teaching will take place in chichewa, in person to cohorts of 30 entrepreneurs each, and we expect there to be a requirement to do one-on-one coaching thereafter. We are hiring a team of two teachers, both of whom will be responsible for teaching roughly 60 entrepreneurs each. The teaching will happen as part of three in-person learning weeks per year, therefore this role is hybrid and can be done part-time.
Responsibilities
- Leading in-person training for 150 micro-entrepreneurs in Mulanje, divided into cohorts of 30 people per cohort.
- Being present in Mulanje for at least 5 days per month to provide one-on-one coaching and support to Mayankho members where requested.
- Report to Mayankho’s leadership on student progress and outcomes throughout the year. These learnings will be used to inform curriculum enhancements going forward.
- Work with a team of trainers who are elected members of each cohort. These trainers will participate in SMEDI training before working with the Head of Education to be community mentors
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience teaching/coaching entrepreneurship at Secondary School level, or in University or TVET colleges in Malawi.
- Experience as an entrepreneur is preferred, ideally founding an MSME in Malawi.
- Proficiency in English is preferred but not essential.
