Mission and objectives
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. As the international community has committed to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition by 2030, one in nine people worldwide still do not have enough to eat. Food and food-related assistance lie at the heart of the struggle to break the cycle of hunger and poverty.
Context
The Emergency Response Officer will play a crucial role in WFP’s efforts to respond to the impacts of disasters such El Niño in the affected regions. The primary purpose of this assignment is to implement and manage response activities, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure the effective delivery of assistance to vulnerable communities.
Task description
Conduct rapid assessments to determine the extent of disaster impacts on food security, water resources, and livelihoods. Develop detailed response plans and strategies in coordination with WFP programme and supply chain units and partners. Coordinate with local government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders to ensure a unified and effective response. Engage with affected regions to oversee and participate in the distribution of food aid directly to communities in need. Ensure the logistics of food distribution are managed efficiently and effectively, including transportation, storage, and handling. Establish and maintain monitoring systems to track the progress and impact of response activities. Prepare regular reports on the status of response efforts, including challenges and recommendations for improvement. Collect and analyze data to inform decision-making and adjust response strategies as needed. Engage with affected communities to understand their needs and ensure their participation in the response process.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in national and/or international level in multi-sectoral coordination of operational activities in preparedness and response, or project/programme management, reporting, documentation and monitoring and evaluation, or other relevant programmes; experience working with the Government is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organizationArea(s) of expertise
