Malawi Housing Corporation

Malawi Housing Corporation, a statutory corporation established by the Malawi Housing Act (Chapter 32.02) of the Laws of Malawi, is looking for suitably qualified and dynamic individuals to fill the following vacant positions in its establishment. The positions are tenable at the Corporations Regional Office South, Blantyre.

The Company

Malawi Housing Corporation was established through the Malawi Housing Act (Chapter 32.2) the Laws of Malawi. Its mandate is to construct houses, develop plots and maintain the existing houses and plots. The Act was amended by Parliament in December 2016 extending the mandate to enable the Corporation operate as a commercial entity.

To provide and facilitate decent and affordable housing and commercial infrastructure through plot development, construction, maintenance and property management in an environmentally sustainable manner and as a profit-making entity.

THE VACANT POSITION

Job Title: Electrician
Department: Maintenance Unit
Reporting to: Works Supervisor
Purpose of the Job: Providing electrical maintenance and installation services.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Wiring and rewiring of new and old houses.
  • Fixing of new electrical fittings/appliances.
  • Testing, checking and fixing of all switch gears.
  • Inspection and fixing of mains-wire and D-Iron.
  • Removing of Electrical fittings in vacant houses and replacing them when being occupied.
  • Carrying out preventive maintenance and safety checks.
  • Writing and submitting regular reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent.
  • Grade 1 Trade Test certificate or City and Guilds Part Il in Electrical Engineering, CBET Level 3 (TEVETA Level 3 in Electrical Installation)
  • A minimum of 2 years proven experience in electricity installation and maintenance services.

Skills and Abilities

  • Organization skills, committed to duty with sober mind.
  • Attention to detail ability to exercise own initiative and judgement.
  • Should be innovative and have the ability to work with minimum supervision.
