Background
The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu has three main focus areas: a) Pastoral Care; b) Human and Social Development and c) Institutional Development.

Under the Human and Social Development focus area, the main strategic goal is: “To promote sustainable
socioeconomic development among individuals, families and communities in the Diocese of Mzuzu.” Under this focus area, two of the Strategic Objectives are: “To promote human rights, justice and peace including child and women protection in the communities the church serves” and “To improve access to and quality of education at all levels in the Diocese.”

It is for this reason that the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu is calling for applications to fill the vacant position as
follows:

 

 

Education Coordinator
Duty Station: Mzuzu (Secretariat)
Reports to: The Director of Social Development
Department: Education

The person taking up this opportunity will lead in fulfilling the education commission’s strategic objective i.e. “to improve access to and quality of education at all levels in the Diocese”.

MAIN PURPOSE
Head/lead operations and coordinate all activities of Diocese of Mzuzu Education Department (DOMED) regarding both projects and institutional supervision and strengthening.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Among others, some of the main duties include, but not limited to the following: –

  • Plan, implement and manage projects related to education in the Diocese;
  • Ensure adherence to education policies of the country and those of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with fellow staff members and/or partners and/or other relevant stakeholders including parish priests & appropriate education committees in the Diocese.
  • Ensure schools and colleges of the Diocese are running smoothly while respecting the Catholic Ethos through institutional supportive supervision and strengthening.
  • Work hand in hand with other departments and other organs of the Diocese for smooth implementation of the educational goals of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu.
  • Ensure adherence to the Diocesan Strategic goals as espoused in the 2017-2025 Strategic Plan.
  • Keep the Director of Social Development informed of all on-going activities at DOMED who, will, in turn, keep the Social Development Board, Bishop and entire Diocesan Management team of the activities in DOMED.
  • Compile reports of projects and other issues happening in DOMED.
  • Writing project proposals for the department and other departments when need be.
  • Support education improvement initiatives in Primary schools, Secondary schools and tertiary education;
  • Promote entrepreneurship and vocational skills for the youth;
  • Promote strong Catholic ethos and values in all Catholic educational institutions;

REQUIREMENTS
Among Other requirements, we are looking for a person with the following attributes: –

  • Master of Arts/Science in Education or related field with experience in: –
    • Teaching and/or managing secondary school(s) and above
    • Leadership & Project Designing and Management
    • Dealing with donor partners
    • Those with a first Degree; and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in managing
      education institutions & education related projects will be considered.
  • Proven experience in project proposal development, project implementation as well as project monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills very essential.
  • A committed Christian and knowledge of Catholic Social Teachings & respect for the Catholic ethos will be a significant added advantage
  • Knowledge and skills of varying computer packages – very essential.
  • Good communication & coordination skills – a must.
