Project Hope Namibia in Malawi (PHN-MA) seeks qualified Malawian candidate to fill various positions for the USAID funded Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo Activity (ANAPA) Project, a project aimed at preventing new HIV infections and improve the health wellbeing and Protection of Children, Adolescents, their families and Young Women (CAFYW) living with, affected by and vulnerable to HIV. ANAPA will be implemented in high HIV burdened nine districts in Malawi (Blantyre, Chikwawa, Lilongwe, Machinga, Mangochi, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo and Zomba). The program focus on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and Adolescent Boys and Young Men (ABYM). The approach is also including but not limited to System Strengthening, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) in close collaboration with Government of Malawi (GoM).

Economic Strengthening Officer (ESO) (8)

Reporting to: District Team Lead

Duty Station: Blantyre, Chikwawa, Zomba, Phalombe, Mulanje, Thyolo, Machinga, Mangochi.

Job Summary: Reporting to District Team Leader, the Economic Strengthening Officer (ESO) is responsible for the coordination and implementation of evidence-based economic strengthening interventions for Adolescents, their Families and Young Women (AFYW). Working closely with ANAPA participants and community partners, the ESO will implement a range of strategies and initiatives to empower AFYW with skills, knowledge, and resources to improve their livelihoods and economic opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the ES component of ANAPA work plan at the district level.

  • Participate in district wide labour market assessment (LMA).

  • Lead AFYW led LMA.

  • Build the capacity of Community Care Workers and Parenting Session Facilitators on the ES component of ANAPA.

  • Lead training of AFYW and caregivers on financial literacy.

  • Conduct assessment to identify AFYW and caregivers who need intensive (comprehensive) ES interventions.

  • Collaborate with ANAPA participants and staff to develop tailored economic strengthening plans, considering AFYW and caregivers existing skills and resources.

  • Lead the training of AFWY and caregivers on entrepreneurship and employability skills.

  • Link eligible AFYW and caregivers to vocational training and internship.

  • Lead the implementation of village saving and loan groups for AFYW and caregivers.

  • Facilitate access for AFYW to microfinance institutions and other financial services.

  • Coach and mentor AFYW and caregivers in starting and managing entrepreneurship and income-generating activities (IGA).

  • Create a network of private sector partners and collaborate with government, CSOs and the community at large to create economic opportunities for AFYW and their caregivers.

  • Identify market opportunities and link AFYW and caregivers involved in IGAs to markets for their products or services.

  • Regularly track the progress of AFYW and caregivers and measure the impact of economic strengthening interventions.

  • Work with the Government of Malawi to register group and individual business for AFYW

  • ES data collection, data entry, data analysis and presentation.

Minimum Qualifications, experience and required skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Business Administration, Agribusiness, Development Studies, or related field.

  • Proven understanding of the DREAMS and OVC programs

  • Proven experience of the Siyakha model

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing economic strengthening interventions.

  • Strong knowledge of financial literacy, income-generation, and livelihood improvement strategies.

  • Proven experience as an entrepreneur.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Familiarity with the local economic context and challenges faced by VCAY and their caregivers.

  • Commitment to promoting gender equality and social inclusion in economic strengthening activities.
