In August 2021, United Purpose and Self-Help Africa (UP/SHA) merged at a Global Level. In Malawi the country programmes have merged together under one organogram. The merger of United Purpose and Self-Help Africa has given us a unique opportunity to create an organisation built on our shared values and ideals and one that draws on our collective experience, knowledge and skills to expand and improve our work across the countries we work in.

 Job purpose: Drivers are responsible for the timely, efficient and transparent accomplishment of all transport support to the organisation and the projects we implement. The role requires a realistic understanding of the operating context and the ability to carry out multiple task as assigned from time to time in liaison with other departments.

The organisation is looking to identify multiple drivers to support projects across the country, for different durations, and successful candidates will be offered positions based on their performance.

 Key duties and responsibilities

  • Driving organisational vehicles with care and responsibility
  • Ensuring safety and security of the vehicle when it is in their custody and make sure that vehicle procedures and car tracker requirements are followed all the time
  • Cleaning the vehicle on a daily basis
  • Ensuring that the engine and gear box oil, battery acid, break and clutch fluid and tire pressures are regularly checked and kept to recommended levels
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is regularly serviced as scheduled and maintained
  • Be proactive in checking vehicle insurances and COFs and facilitating renewal before expiry
  • Recording vehicle log book continuously and accurately
  • Timely reporting any vehicle accidents as and when they happen
  • Reporting any damage/mechanical faults to the Procurement department
  • Supporting other organisational staff in loading and unloading the vehicle as required

 The successful candidate will have

  • Clean Driving License with 3 years driving experience
  • Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding risks and mitigating actions.
  • High levels of integrity, honesty, strong ethics but also a quick learner
  • Minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Defensive driving skills desirable but not essential
  • Familiar with electronic gadgets and computers/internet
  • Highly organized and plans and implements work efficiently, with very minimum supervision
  • Responsive to queries in a timely manner
  • Ready to work on occasional odd hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Excellent communication skills
