Job OverviewUnder the overall supervision of the Logistics Coordinator/Supervisor, a Driver is responsible for managing vehicles as well as organizing and driving hospital vehicles to and from intended assigned routes. Ensuring that vehicles are road-worthy and clean whilst serving the hospital staff, patients, guests and other users. The Driver is also involved in supporting patient mobilization team and spiritual ministry during outreach activities.

Responsibilities

  • Driving: This is the primary responsibility of a driver, which involves operating a vehicle safely, efficiently, and following traffic laws and regulations.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: The driver will be responsible for basic maintenance tasks such as checking oil levels, tire pressure, and ensuring the vehicle is in good working condition before and after each trip.
  • Transportation of Goods or Passengers: This could involve delivering packages, transporting passengers to their destinations, or hauling goods between locations.
  • Route Planning: Responsible for planning his routes to optimize efficiency and minimize travel time. This could involve using GPS devices or maps to determine the best routes based on traffic conditions and other factors.
  • Customer Service: The driver will be required to interact with passengers, providing excellent customer service, this could involve being polite and helpful, assisting passengers with luggage or other needs.
  • Documentation: maintaining accurate records of all trips, including mileage and fuel consumption, managing fuel requisition books and incidents records.
  • Adherence to Regulations: Complying with all relevant laws and regulations governing their operation, including traffic laws, safety regulations, and any specific requirements related to the transportation of passengers or goods.
  • Safety and Security: Ensuring the safety and security of passengers, cargo, vehicle tools and the vehicle itself, this may involve performing pre-trip inspections, securing cargo properly, and following safety protocols.
  • Communication: Ensuring frequent and proper communication with dispatchers, supervisors, or vehicle users to provide updates on their status, report any issues or delays, and coordinate logistics.
  • Safe Care activities: The driver will be required to assist in updating Safe Care Quality Standards documents related to transport and logistics.
  • Reporting to immediate supervisors vehicle fuel levels at the beginning of every week.

Requirements

  • A minimum of Certificate in Logistics and Motor Vehicle Mechanic.
  • Those with a Diploma in Logistics will have an added advantage.
  • Holder of a valid PSV/D1 driving license.
  • A minimum of five experience, with 3 years in NGO or Healthcare setting.
  • Computer literate – Conversant with Microsoft Office.
  • Capable of undertaking his duties during odd hours and be able to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to do any other duties assigned from time to time.
