BACKGROUND ON ANAPA:

The purpose of the USAID-funded Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA) project is to prevent new HIV infections by ensuring equitable access to and use of health, HIV, and social services among children, adolescents, their families, and young women in Malawi. The ANAPA project is led by Project HOPE Namibia, with Project HOPE US, the Lilongwe Catholic Health Commission (LCHC), and the Association of Social Workers (ASWIM) in Malawi as sub-partners. As part of our scope, Project HOPE US is providing high quality technical assistance to consortium members and Government of Malawi structures to build local capacity in the implementation of evidence-based, structured interventions, data management, and program monitoring, evaluation, and research.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The District Mentor – Social will provide guidance and mentorship to district-level social welfare and social work staff and sub-partners involved in the Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA) project. This role operates within the broader technical framework led by the CQI Advisor. The District Mentor – Social will specifically oversee and contribute to technical responsibilities related to data analysis, leveraging their expertise in this area to enhance project outcomes and ensure effective implementation.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the ANAPA project to meticulously plan and execute the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, employing advanced quality improvement methodologies with a specific focus on data analysis.
  2. Partner with relevant local ministries and implementing entities to facilitate the adoption and execution of minimum standards for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in designated districts, incorporating robust data analysis strategies.
  3. Efficiently coordinate and lead training, coaching, and learning sessions for CQI staff within the districts, emphasizing the application of data analysis techniques to enhance the quality improvement processes.
  4. Provide specialized technical mentorship to district-level staff, imparting expertise in data collection, analysis, utilization, and reporting for CQI interventions, ensuring a comprehensive understanding and application of data-driven decision-making.
  5. Collaborate closely with the HIS Advisor to contribute to the development and maintenance of dashboards, actively participating in refining and utilizing tools that support practical data analysis and reporting.
  6. Actively create training materials, learning resources, and coaching visit materials, incorporating the latest advancements in data analysis methodologies to enhance the overall effectiveness of educational initiatives within the project.

Representation & Communication:

  1. Represent and safeguard Project HOPE’s interests and reputation in all meetings, deeds, and activities at all levels, including district, zone, and national levels.
  2. Participate in relevant working groups and meetings.
  3. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned by the Project HOPE CQI Advisor.

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Possess a minimum of 7 years of extensive work experience in health program management within developing countries, with a preference for familiarity with the Malawian context. A social work background is highly desirable.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field, demonstrating a solid educational foundation for the complexities of program management, particularly in the health sector.
  • Bring at least two years of hands-on experience in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), and/or DREAMS programming, showcasing proficiency in technical responsibilities such as data analysis within these domains.
  • Ideally, possess experience implementing programs funded by PEPFAR and other donors, showcasing a nuanced understanding of the intricacies associated with donor-funded initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to conceptualize and implement evidence-based strategies, specifically emphasizing utilizing data analysis techniques to achieve project targets, especially when working within demanding timelines.
  • Showcase a rich background in collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including local partners, government officials, donor representatives, and communities. This underscores a capacity to navigate and foster productive relationships within a broad spectrum of collaborators.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the English language, ensuring effective communication and comprehension in both written and verbal interactions, essential for successful project management in an international context.

Salary range starting at a daily rate of $80/day for an estimated 260 days.
