Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance

Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) in partnership with World Education Inc. /Bantwana Initiative (WEI/Bantwana) is implementing a USAID funded Ana Patsogolo Program/Project. The program sets out to change life trajectories for highly vulnerable Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW)
in Phalombe District in the Southern Region of Malawi.

These populations live with escalated and intersecting risks for HIV infection, gender based violence and poor sexual and reproductive health and we need to provide solutions by integrating social protection supports and health services that will enable them not only adhere to treatment but also to
thrive to adulthood.

GAIA in partnership with Bantwana seeks to recruit highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals for the implementation of DREMS PROJECT through recruitment of District DREAMS Coordinator and District DREAMS Officer positions tenable in Phalombe District.

Job Summary

The District DREAMS Coordinator will provide technical leadership and oversight in the success of project implementation on design and implementation of high-quality HIV related service programs serving adolescent girls and their families. She/he is expected to have a medical background and skills in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programs, Advocacy, community mobilization and training facilitation.

Key Result Areas

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

Programme Implementation and Development

  • Provide technical leadership for implementation of DREAMS activities
  • Ensure the layering of HIV prevention for AGYW
  • Monitor program results against targets and work plans and operationalizes program standards
  • Provide technical and operational program management to staff, partners and field Officers, to optimize program performance and outcomes.
  • Coordinate effective implementation of program activities, including the development of work plans and timely reporting
  • Provide technical support, mentoring and skills building to staff
  • Ensure compliance with programmatic objectives and GAIA financial and administrative regulations
  • Liaise with key stakeholders including government of Malawi at national, district and peripheral levels, Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social welfare (MoGCDSW), Ministry of Health and other line ministries, CBOs and faith-based organizations
  • Coordinate project activities and support internal and external communications as well as process documentation activities.
  • Facilitate development of plans and budgets and submit quarterly, annual and activity DREAMS progress reports.
  • Work closely with the project M&E team to ensure regular updates of the DREAMS tracker and accurate and timely reporting.
  • Facilitate trainings and on site mentorship activities using the national curriculum, guidelines and protocol.

Training and Development

  • Facilitate the identification of DREAMS facilitators, Dreams Ambassadors and Dreams Lead Facilitators and training needs in dreams program, referrals and linkages among AGYWS.
  • Build the capacity of the District teams, Facility and community health workers to provide services on DREAMS initiative as per the National guidelines

Representation, Networking and Advocacy

  • Represent the project at DREAMS meetings including Ministry of Health and DREAMS technical working group activities.
  • Coordinate identification & meaningful engagement of clinical partners at district level including education, social welfare and District Health Office.

Project Monitoring and Documentation

  • In collaboration with the M&E team, ensure that reporting and documentation of results from the DREAMS implementation is done timely and is of acceptable quality (ensuring accuracy and timeliness), ensuring timely updated of the DREAMS tracker
  • Identify and document best practices.
  • Work closely with the project M&E team to ensure regular updates of the DREAMS tracker and accurate and timely reporting.

Job Specifications

  • University degree in any of the following fields: Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Health, Gender and Development Studies, YFHS including SRHR and inclusive education.
  • Availability of a Master’s degree is an added advantage
  • 3 years’ experience in the following technical areas; HIV prevention targeted to AGYWs, HIV testing and counseling, Positive dignity, social and behavior change communications, community development and mobilization, gender and GBV
  • Participatory Methodologies and Group Facilitation skills are desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Word Excel,
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Malawi’s policy and programming context for HIV clinical and community services
