The Opportunity
Savethe Children (SC)is seeking tohire six DistrictCoordinators to drive the implementation of the Climate-resilient Health and Wellbeing for Rural Communities in Southern Malawi Project, to be funded by the Green Climate Fund. Ministry of Health (MoH) and Save the Children in Malawi will co-execute the five-year project at national level and in six districts, namely Balaka, Ntcheu, Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe and Zomba. The project aims to reduce the risk of climate related diseases, strengthen the climate resilience of the healthcare infrastructure and build capacity of healthcare staff and communities on responding to the health impacts of climate change. It is a foundational health systems strengthening project for the MoH to start addressing its climate and health ambitions articulated in the Health Sector Strategy III. Under the supervision of the Programme Director, the District Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating both technical and administrative tasks to ensure the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of interventions.
The District Coordinator will lead and be responsible for the district financial and administrative management of the Climate Resilient Health and Wellbeing for Communities in Southern Malawi Project, ensuring and maintaining compliance with SCI and GCF and other co-financing donor procedures, standards as well as national rules and regulations.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
To be successful, you will bring/have:
- University degree relevant to coordination, public administration, business administration, development studies or any related field, at least 8 years of project management experience, including 5 years of district coordination leadership in an international NGO.
- Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of managing teams and fostering effective working relationships.
- Familiarity with legal and bureaucratic requirements in Malawi is an asset, particularly in finance and human resource management
- Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of managing teams and fostering effective working relationships
- Familiarity with procurement systems, fraud prevention and control
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail in operational processes
- Excellent communication abilities to facilitate coordination between various locations as well as between country-based location and headquarters.
- Capacity to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Ensuring and maintaining compliance with donor procedures, standards as well as national rules and regulations.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail in operational processes
- Strong engagement skills with a wide range of government, non-government and a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a cross-cultural context.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and writing skills and experience preparing quality communication products for stakeholders, clients, and officials.
- Proficiency in English and Chichewa languages, both written and oral
Desirable
- Experience of working in a busy INGO environment
