Malawi National Council of Sports (Council)

Background

The Malawi National Council of Sports (Council) was established by statute to regulate and provide oversight of sports in Malawi.

Through the years, Council’s mandate has included matters of women and sports, professional sports, sports for people with disabilities, recreational sports as well as anti-doping within sport

The Council has developed a 5-year strategic plan and to effectively implement it, applications are invited for highly motivated, skilled and qualified Malawians to fill the following executive position:

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE (CS2)

Reporting to the CEO. Based at Council Offices in Blantyre

Job Summary:

To ensure prudent management of the finances of the Council and provide advice to Management on financial and accounting matters

Key Duties and responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for the formulation of financial accounting strategies; Coordinates financial functions of the Council
  • Prepares quarterly management accounts, financial plans and cash flow forecasts, and financial statements.
  • Monitors and controls expenditure and revenue performance
  • Approves general ledger and bank reconciliation statements,
  • Maintains good working relationships with Council’s financial stakeholders, partners, clients, banks, sports bodies and council’s senior managers in various financial matters in the course of business dealings;
  • Develops standards, policies, and procedures based on best accounting practices.
  • Interprets and implements Council’s approved financial plans, policies, regulations and controls:
  • Manages working capital requirements on daily basis.
  • Collaborates with external auditors.
  • Submits consolidated revenue and expenditure reports to all relevant authorities.
  • Supervises subordinates
  • Identifies capacity development gaps in the department

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Master’s Degree (Business Administration/Finance/Accounting) from a recognised institution
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or a related field from a recognized institution
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA. CPA CIMA or ACA or other similar aualification.
  • Not less than eight (8) years relevant managerial experience obtained after attaining the bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Good knowledge of financial management
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and Access).
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of accounting packages
  • Excellent negotiating skills

Terms and Conditions

The successful candidate will be appointed on a three-year contract which may be renewed once depending on performance. Remuneration and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
