POSITION: DENTIST

Location: Lilongwe Adventist Hospital, Off Presidential-Way, Area 14/5.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Lilongwe Adventist Hospital (LAH) is one of the leading private dental clinics in Malawi with state of the art newly refurbished dental rooms specialized in oral health services delivery. Lilongwe Adventist Hospital is therefore looking for result-oriented and competent dentist who can provide a range of services to our patients. The dentist will meet with patients, assess their dental health, perform scheduled cleanings, handle complex procedures, such as root canals, extractions, and oral surgery, and work with other staff members.

SKILLS

A motivated, compassionate and experienced dentist adept working with adults and children in all ages, skilled at building long-lasting relationships with patients, delegating work and educating patients and families about proper oral hygiene, who provides and manages direct patient care including examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis and treatment for a diverse patient population.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Examine patients’ medical records
  2. Prepare patients for treatment (e.g. by applying oral sedation or anesthesia)
  3. Check teeth, gums and other parts of the mouth, along with X-rays and tests, to diagnose dental problems
  4. Clean teeth and remove plaque
  5. Identify tooth decay and replace cavities with fillings
  6. Design and fit dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns and dentures
  7. Apply teeth-whitening treatments
  8. Conduct tooth extractions and root canal procedures
  9. Perform surgeries on diseased tissues and bones
  10. Prescribe medication as needed
  11. Educate patients on proper brushing techniques, flossing and fluoride use
  12. Promote good oral health and preventive dental care (e.g. by scheduling regular check-ups)
  13. Trains direct and co-ordinate dental assistants.
  14. Knows how to diagnose problems, treating problems, prescribing medication, teaching patients, monitoring patients, making dental appliance, suturing and making monthly statistics.
  15. Must have leadership skills and a team player and willing to extend working hours when the need arises.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Successful candidate must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  2. Must have at least 2 years’ experience in a similar position and in a busy organization.
  3. Must have excellent patient care skills.
  4. Must be a self-starter and able to cope up with pressure of work.
  5. Must be computer literate, fluency in English, and mature.
