Position:    Debt Collector

Contract:   2 years

Location:   Salima

We are searching for an experienced and detail-oriented Debt Collector to join our growing institution. In this position, you will work with customers to collect their outstanding debts to the company. You will organize and keep track of customer’s outstanding debt accounts, contacting debtors to learn more about their payment status and negotiating payments and payment plans with customers. The ideal candidate will have experience managing different types of loans including home loans, business loans, and individual loans. To succeed in this role, you should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


  1. Collection of debts of active accounts within a set time frame.
  2. Collection of outstanding debts of terminated accounts within a reasonable time frame, before legal action is taken.
  3. Reconcile customer accounts and physically meets the clients for settlement.
  4. Act as a liaison between customers and the company with regards to negotiation of the debt recovery.
  5. Respond promptly and completely to both client and internal enquiries.
  6. Providing ad-hoc reporting as and when requested by management.
  7. Reading and interpreting loans contract terms to clients during trainings, and debts collection.
  8. Making sure that loans portfolios are well managed and that bad debts are minimized.
  9. Undertaking any other duties as assigned by the Branch Manager.


Ideal candidates must possess the following:

  1. Diploma in Accounting, Business Administration, Community development or Credit Management from a recognized institution.
  2. Trained in Credit Management, Customer Service and Communication skills.
  3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner.
  5. Ability to negotiate (i.e. use of full and complete information to negotiate best arrangement).
  6. Ability to work in a team environment.
  7. Detailed oriented.
  8. Physically fit and energetic
  9. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and multi-task.
  10. Solutions-driven.
  11. Basic technical phone skills.
  12. Ability to refer to policy, procedures, and basic laws of Malawi, when applying information and making decisions
  13. Good time management skills
  14. Basic Motorbike riding skills and those who have a license will have an added advantage.
