JOB DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity

Save the Children International is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Data Management Officer under Titukulane project. The Data Management Officer will work collaboratively with all members of the Titukulane team under direct supervision of the MEAL Coordinator. The major responsibility of the Data Management Officer is to assist in managing Titukulane project data and providing any technical needs to the staff. S/he  will assist in updating databases for the Project implementation area in Zomba. S/he will work with the MEAL Technical Coordinator to develop and maintain the MEAL system for the project. S/he will assist in all the research initiatives for the Project. The position holder will also assist in designing data collection tools, training of staff in data management and ensuring that data collected is of high quality. S/he will also help the MEAL Technical Coordinator in data analysis, updating the project IPTT and reviewing all monitoring and evaluation reports.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Assist in developing data collection and reporting formats to ensure standardized reporting and meeting all data requirements for donor and internal reporting.
  • Manage routine data, including data cleaning and entry in different Titukulane platforms to ensure completeness and quality
  • Report any errors identified during data review to appropriate team members and assist in resolving issues
  • With guidance from Titukulane MEAL Coordinator, build new components of data collection and aggregation tools
  • Run basic, descriptive data analyses for project staff
  • Generate/update pivot tables and charts of the indicators of interest for routine monitoring purposes as well as ad hoc requests
  • Ensure that all Titukulane trainings are entered in the system and track the training data.
  • Maintain master copies of data collection forms (ensuring accurate updating as needed) and supporting documentation for data management system in electronic venue accessible to relevant teams
  • Troubleshoot data submission and synchronization errors.
  • Develop and implement data management plans.
  • Ensuring proper filling of paper based activity attendance sheets
  • Develop and maintain a good filling system for the project document.
  • Orient and build capacity building of partner’s field staff, Community Mobilizers on data collection forms
  • Document project reports, lesson learnt, etc.
  • Provide on-going support and mentorship to project staff on data management.
  • Facilitate beneficiary verification to ensure registered beneficiaries meet the inclusion criteria

Occasional, Significant Duties

Sit in for MEAL Technical Coordinator when assigned

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in computing, statistics, social sciences or economics plus 1-3 years’ experience in a related field.
  • At least 1-3 years’ experience in data management
  • Ability to design online, open-source data collection tools and approaches and or database environment and/or project management software (DHIS2, Kobo Toolbox, ODK, etc.).
  • Experience in managing (cleaning, entering, aggregating and generating reports from) data using Relational database (SQL) platforms; Knowledge of database platforms (MS ACCESS, high-functioning user level required, developer skills not required)
  • Experience in working with USAID funded projects
  • Experience with USAID data quality requirements
  • Fluency in English, for effective oral and written communication.
  • Experience in training low literacy level participants in field data management and utilization.
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Experience in managing data filing system.
  • Experience in managing knowledge management systems.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner, and to use innovative forms of communication.
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff.
  • Computer skills required.
