Job Description

The Data Analyst position falls within the Analytics Unit in the Right to Care (RTC) Strategic Information Department. The Analytics unit within Right to Care is a small team that has recently been formed at RTC and is expected to increase in size. The Analytics department works with RTC’s programs by conducting data analysis to provide solutions that will improve program performance. The analysis conducted is ad-hoc analysis for immediate organisational needs, and longer-term projects that are translated into actionable insights. Where possible, the Analytics unit publishes scientific papers and presents its work at conferences. The candidate would be required to collaborate with RTCs partner in research and cost evaluation. The Analytics unit also works closely with a partner that helps the organisation with data engineering activities, descriptive analysis and high frequency reporting as required. The candidate would need to leverage off this partnership to strengthen the overall data system within RTC. The candidate will also be responsible for evaluating current programs’ interventions to determine their effectiveness and cost efficiency. The Data Analyst will work closely with the internal Business Development unit by providing in analysis to assist in grant writing. The analysis will often require research and the summarising of data into an easy to understand format. The end goal of this position is to use data analytics to improve patient outcomes across the countries that RTC operates in.

Main purpose of job

To lead data analytics for the Sustaining HIV Epidemic Control programme in line with donor and the programs’ objectives. The Data Analyst will be responsible for understanding program needs, then developing and executing data analysis to improve the programs’ performance. The Data Analyst will enhance data driven decision making for the program.

Required minimum education

– Candidates must have a Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or another relevant field.

Required minimum experience

– At least 5 years’ experience in data science.

– Experience performing analytical projects that lead to an actionable change within an organisation.

– 3+ years’ experience in data engineering, descriptive analytics and predictive analytics

– Experience with analysing large datasets and developing customized reporting.

– Intermediate skills with SQL, R, Python or other relevant software.

– Must be computer literate and must be able to use Windows, MS Office, PowerPoint, and Excel.

– Experience creating compelling and meaningful visualizations and reports

Desirable education & experience

– Experience with a Cloud computing environment, preferably Azure

– Experience with developing Machine Learning & AI models.

– Implementing models into production.

– GIS & spatial analysis experience.

– Experience with a business intelligence visualisation software like PowerBI, QlikSense, Tableau etc.

– Must have valid driver’s licence.

– Must have valid passport and be available to occasionally travel at short notice to remote locations within and outside of South Africa and/or Malawi.
