Family Health Services (FHS), formerly known as PSI Malawi, has partnered with the government of Malawi through the Ministry of Health (MoH) since 1994 in safeguarding the health of Malawians by using private sector approaches to reconfigure healthcare delivery – (i) through directly delivering innovative social and behavior change communications, social marketing and social franchising across a wide range of health areas including Reproductive Health, HIV, Malaria and water-borne disease prevention (ii) by playing a market facilitation role, approaching market challenges and opportunities with a system-wide lens that unlocks a self-sustaining market with multiple players that can prioritize, adapt and ultimately thrive without external assistance and funds.

While a local organisation with deep roots in Malawi, Family Health Services is globally connected; mainly through affiliation to Population Service International (PSI), a Washington DC based non-governmental and non-profit making organization that boasts a global network of members across over 50 countries through which FHS continues to leverage capacities, learnings, and best practice to enhance activities in Malawi.To accomplish its mission, FHS is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant positions of Covid-19 Vaccination officer.

Reporting to the Covid-19 Vaccination Project Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for creating demand for, and implementation of Covid-19 vaccination activities at the district and community level;  supporting Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) with resources, creating community awareness, dispelling myths about Covid-19 vaccination and encouraging uptake of Covid-19 vaccines. Specifically he/she will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities. 

  • Formulate a detailed monthly plan at district level in liaison with project manager and community mobilisers
  • Conduct demand creation activities and provide logistical support in line with set Standard Operating Procedures
  • Map the district, identify appropriate sites and partners to facilitate demand creation for Covid-19 and linkages
  • Translate the demand creation strategy into actual action
  • Support implementation of digital/social media campaign to promote and raise awareness of Covid-19 vaccination
  • Support community Mobilizers in their day-to-day demand creation activities.
  • Support Health Surveillance Assistants with Covid-19 vaccination implementation programs in the community
  • Support the HSAs with cold chain system maintenance all the times
  • Monitor adequacy of supplies for Community Mobilizers for conducting demand creation activities
  • Recruit dedicated demand creation Mobilizers per outreach site targeting the different target groups
  • Equip Mobilizer with demand creation strategies, IPC skills and basic communication skills
  • Develop monthly demand creation work plan for sharing with supervisors and district partner
  • Supervise Mobilizers, conduct frequent update meetings, quality assessments and mentorships to address any identified gaps.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Demand Creation Coordinator on effectiveness of strategies and tools with clear proposals on what needs to be changed
  • Understand and analyze clients’ dynamics and needs to provide effective service delivery.
  • Work with community structures to support demand creation activities in the community
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to the project manager on all activities conducted with a special focus on what works and impact of activities
  • Identify success stories and lessons learnt and communicate to the project manager for documentation
  • Monitor HSAs and community mobilisers for quality and adherence to applicable policies and standards. (MOH guidelines and informed choice)
  • Coordinate with youth networks for Covid-19 awareness of and access Covid-19 vaccination
  • Conduct Youth Alert! Mix mega shows across all districts promoting COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Facilitate community entry meetings with gate keepers.
  • Collaborate with other Covid-19 program implementing partners in the district
  • Participate in the relevant Covid-19 district and community meetings
  • Plan and facilitate training with health workers and gate keepers in the community
  • Work with other community and district partners to coordinate communication and demand creation activities within the communities and target districts
  • Supports project manager in collecting and sharing information for success stories and lessons learn.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Ability, and Skills.

  • Degree in Public Health, communication, community rural development or any relevant field with at least 2 years’ experience in implementing community mobilization and engagement, behaviour change communication programs that result in uptake of service.
  •  Thorough understanding of Covid-19 and vaccination program
  • Knowledgeable with community health assessment and engagement
  • Good interpersonal communication and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with key demand creation planning, implementation, and evaluation activities
  • Ability to develop analytical processes and tracking methods as regards to demand creation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good facilitation and strong leadership skills
  • Self-starter, effective team player with verifiable result-oriented track records
