Cotton Council of Malawi

COTTON COUNCIL OF MALAWI was established by the Cotton Act of 2013 with the mandate to regulate, develop and improve the cotton industry in Malawi. The Vision of CCM is to become a progressive regulator effectively contributing to the development of a sustainable cotton industry.

The Mission of the council is to contribute to the growth of the cotton industry through development of standards and regulations, ensuring adherence to fair trade practices by value chain players, promotion of sustainable innovation and information sharing through a competent and committed workforce.

CCM wishes to recruit suitably qualified, experienced and dedicated individuals to fill the following posts:

Post: Cotton Development Officer (1)

Reports to:

Director of Operations

Purpose of the post

The Cotton Development Officer shall work under the direct supervision of director of Operation and will be responsible for ensuring implementation of set standards and regulations, coordination of cotton stakeholders and value addition activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the purchase of seed cotton
  • Supervise ginning and export of cotton lint, cotton seed and other cotton products.
  • Inspect seed cotton, cotton seed, cotton ginneries and cotton warehouses.
  • Test the quality of seed cotton, cotton seed and cotton lint including imported pesticides.
  • Inspect cotton premises and records.
  • Liaising and collaborating with programme managers from head office on programmes
    implementation.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual analyses and reports of operations for the regional region.
  • Providing an interface between cotton council and cotton sector players in the region.
  • Enforce marketing of seed cotton based on grades.
  • Check weighing scales and other instruments used in the cotton industry in collaboration with Malawi Bureau Standards.
  • Ensure that all cotton regulations are adhered to by all stakeholders in the region.
  • Managing the Council’s assets and human resource in the region.

Academic and Experience

  • Should have Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in management and leadership.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent knowledge of crop husbandry and extension services.
  • Excellent leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
  • Strong analytical, collaborative and problem-solving skills.
