Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM)

Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) is a non-profit, local non-governmental
organization established in 1999. CRECCOM envisions a future with resilient, equitable society
with self-motivated citizens who are responsive to the ever-changing world for the betterment of their welfare. CRECCOM, in partnership with Chemonics International Inc., is implementing a USAID funded activity in 34 education districts in Malawi called Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity abbreviated as “NextGen.”NextGen Activity is solidifying and building on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools. USAID/Malawi expects that by the conclusion of the NextGen Activity: 1) All levels of Malawi’s Ministry of Education (MoE) will be self-sufficient in providing high-quality reading
instruction in Chichewa and English to all grade 1 and 2 learners. irrespective of home language, socio-economic status, gender, disability, or other potentially marginalizing factors. 2) At least 30% of Malawian 2nd grade children will demonstrate grade-level reading proficiency in Chichewa by 2027, as defined by the Global Proficiency Framework. 3) At least 30% of NextGen’s beneficiaries will also demonstrate measurable improvements in English oral expression and in the essential sub-skills of reading in English by the end of the Activity.

The Activity will support all grade one and two classrooms in the country, and at least one hundred
and sixty schools with resource centers for learners with disabilities. This means that the activity will
work with all 5,700+ public primary schools, non-state and/or private schools also serving populations that have not yet entered upper primary instruction, and both the central and decentralized levels of the Ministry of Education (MoE). In addition, NextGen will operate in a selected number of pre-primary learning environments. CRECCOM will in this activity mobilize parents and communities to effectively support their children’s education. The organization will alsoimplement evidence-based strategies in order to increase parents’ income for reading interventions and facilitate behavior change activities to enhance parents’ involvement in reading activities. Through this project, CRECCOM will work with local leaders including chiefs in order to implement activities that will promote reading for early graders.
