Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO)

Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered nongovernmental organization (NGO) established in 1995 to complement Government’s efforts in in the fight against HIV and AIDS and other health related issues.

MACRO’s Vision is “Malawi populace free of ill-Health” and its Mission is “Transform lives of Malawians through provision of high-quality HIV and AIDS, and other health related services”.
With funding from CDC, MACRO is implementing the IMPACT Project whose purpose is:

To strengthen effective measures to address unmet needs for HTS among men and KP/PP and HIV services for KP in CDC supported districts towards the attainment of 95-95-95 goals.

Therefore, MACRO is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position in Lilongwe.

Reporting to: Community Linkage Nurses

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Based Distribution Agent (CBDA) will play a pivotal role in promoting the uptake of SRHR services among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYWs) in Lilongwe District. The CBDA will work closely with community members, health facilities, and relevant stakeholders to raise awareness, provide education, and facilitate access to SRHR services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MSCE, additional training or certification in community health, SRHR, or related fields is desirable.
  • Young women aged between 20 to 35
  • Proven experience working in community-based health promotion or development programs, preferably in the field of SRHR.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including AGYWs, community leaders, and health professionals.
  • Knowledge of local customs, cultural norms, and gender dynamics related to SRHR in Lilongwe District.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Located in the area of project implementation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND MOBILIZATION:

  • Work in collaboration with DREAMS Club Facilitator to provide FP services to AGYW
  • Conduct community outreach activities to raise awareness about SRHR services, including family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, menstrual hygiene, and gender-based violence.
  • Create demand for Sexual & Reproductive Health services; FP, condom use and referrals etc.
  • One on one or Health education/messaging
  • Distribution of FP commodities e.g., condoms and pills.
  • Develop and implement a monthly outreach plan for family planning covering all the clubs under her jurisdiction in the designated location
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, focus group discussions, and peer education sessions to promote positive SRHR behaviors and dispel myths and misconceptions.
  • Mobilize AGYWs and community members to participate in SRHR-related events, workshops, and training sessions.

2. SERVICE PROVISION AND REFERRAL:

  • Provide accurate information and counseling on SRHR topics, including contraceptive methods, STI prevention, and maternal health.
  • Conduct education sessions with AGYW support group members on various topics including cervical cancer HIV/AIDS basics, Condom use, family planning, hygiene and sanitation, sexually transmitted infections, stigma and discrimination and other positive living strategies.
  • Provide risk assessment and risk reduction counselling and facilitate health education sessions for the target group
  • Distribute condoms, contraceptives, and other SRHR commodities to AGYWs and community members.
  • Facilitate referrals to health facilities for comprehensive SRHR services, including HIV testing and counseling, antenatal care, and postnatal care.
  • Facilitate linkage and referral for family planning of clients to health facility.

3. DATA COLLECTION AND REPORTING:

  • Maintain accurate records of SRHR activities, including the number of individuals reached, services provided, and referrals made.
  • Compile and submit monthly reports on CBDA activities, achievements, and challenges to the Program Coordinator.
  • Submit timely reports to your supervisors and health facility.

4. CAPACITY BUILDING AND TRAINING:

  • Participate in training sessions and workshops on SRHR topics, counseling skills, and community mobilization techniques.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with fellow CBDAs and community members to enhance SRHR awareness and uptake.
  • Attends relevant meetings representing the organization where possible
  • Build good working relationships with health care workers from health facilities in designated location of influence
