MCHF works with Government of Malawi to address charcoal-led deforestation through an integrated suite of demand, supply, and regulation-focused activities.

MCHF is accepting expressions of interest for the following position:

COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST (Mid-Level)

(NOTE: Excellent English writing/editing skills, plus social media flyer design skills required)

This position is open to Malawian candidates only.

Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting implementation of the MCHF Communications & Outreach Strategy. This includes development of the project’s monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as well as target specific communications and outreach materials. The Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the project Marking and Branding plan is implemented consistently and correctly, in compliance with USAID and UKaid requirements. This position will be based in Lilongwe.

Main responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Drafting, editing and formatting of MCHF monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Designing branded social media (e.g., flyers, brochures, etc.) for dissemination through WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms.
  • With MCHF technical specialists, designing and overseeing development of the MCHF communication products, in line with the MCHF Communication and Outreach Strategy.
  • Developing information products based on evidence as generated by MCHF the project activities and the project Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system.
  • Packaging and facilitating the translation of complex information into easy to read and use formats.
  • Pre-testing sample communication products before final production to determine whether the targeted audiences correctly receive and understand the messages.
  • Ensuring the correct application of the MCHF Branding and Marking Plan; compliant with USAID and UKaid requirements.
  • Drafting and/or contributing to the development of success stories and content for use in U.S. and U.K. Government publications such as the USAID and FCDO Facebook pages, blogs, etc.
  • As needed, researching and writing qualitative project impact stories in collaboration with the (M&E) team.
  • Providing technical advice, training and support to the project staff regarding compliance and application of the USAID and UKaid branding and marking requirements.
  • Establishing and maintaining media relations with local, national, and international media outlets and managing press releases and relations in compliance with USAID policies.
  • Drafting talking points, speeches, press releases, presentations, and other materials as
    needed by the Chief of Party.

Qualifications

  • (Required) Excellent written communication skills (English).
  • (Required) A degree in communications, journalism, English or any relevant field.
  • (Required) Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • (Required) Proficiency in the design and production of social media materials (flyers)
    materials.
  • (Required) Must have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the professional use of Microsoft, Adobe or other desktop publishing software to develop communications materials including fact sheets, infographics, etc.
