Tovwirane Organisation is a local NGO based at Mzimba Boma undertaking interventions in Women Empowerment, Gender Based Violence Prevention, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, Gender and Governance, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support, Environment, Health, Education, Livelihoods and Child rights among others.

Tovwirane Organization with its consortium partners (Family Health Services-FHS as Prime Partner), Pakachere IHDC, PSI and DAPP) is implementing a 5 year Kuteteza (HIV Prevention) Project with funding from USAID. The Kuteteza (HIV Prevention) Project goal is to reach and maintain epidemic control through prevention of new HIV infection by targeting men and women at substantial risk in high burden districts in Malawi.

Tovwirane Organisation invites suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions tenable at its Zomba field office.

Communication and Demand Creation (CDC) Specialist

The CDC Specialist is a senior management position, reporting to The Executive Director and will work with the project team, relevant Government Ministries, Departments and agencies as well as implementing partners to coordinate the designing, planning and coordinate implementation of all demand creation activities, including mass media and interpersonal communications (IPC). The CDC Specialist will be the lead of the project team for the Zomba field office.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance in the development and implementation of rigorous Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) strategies and materials for (print and audio visual), formative research, through design, media and materials production and evaluation.

  • Provides technical leadership and design expertise in print and material development based on rigorous application of SBCC standards and best practices.

  • Completes detailed strategy write ups, work plans, creative briefs and delivers quarterly reports including reviewing reports and deliverables from project team, partners and all other reporting requirements.

  • Facilitates formative research and audience consultation sessions with target communities.

  • Pre-testing sample communication products before final production to determine whether the targeted audiences correctly receive and understand the messages

  • Responds to specified deliverables and goals of the project and ensures completion of tasks and materials development in a timely manner and in full support and compliance with Tovwirane, FHS, USAID and PEPFAR branding and marking rules, guidelines and regulations.

  • Responds to specified SBCC requests of the Ministry of Health, FHS, USAID, PEPFAR and implementing partners.

  • Oversees the work of consultants, subcontractors, as required.

  • Supervise the project team consisting of 4 members of staff and Media Advisors to develop/update the inventory of all SBCC materials.

  • Maintains an up to date database of materials produced by the project, Ministry of Health and partners.

Minimum Requirements

minimum of a university degree, (those with a Master’s Degree is an added advantage) in Communication, Social Sciences, Behavioral Change Communication, Change Management, Strategic Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related field and 6 years of experience or a post graduate degree in a relevant field and 4 years of experience.

Strong technical expertise in SBCC, particularly developing and implementing health communication strategies following international standards and best practices.

Strong experience in SBCC materials development and pre-testing, working with key stakeholders including; Government, development partners, implementing partners, districts and communities.

Evidence of good analytical and problem-solving skills.

Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Willingness to travel to districts, monthly if necessary
