The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is inviting applications from suitably qualifi ed, highly motivated, and experienced individuals to be considered for the following vacant positions in various establishments of the University:
Clinical Officer
a. Role Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing primary healthcare services, diagnosing and treating a variety of medical conditions, and off ering clinical support to patients. The role shall involve performing medical examinations, prescribing treatments, and ensuring that patients receive appropriate care within the institution’s health facility.
b. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical examinations of patients to diagnose illnesses and injuries.
- Record patients’ medical histories, symptoms, and treatments.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including blood tests, x-rays, and other necessary
procedures. - Prescribe medications and treatments based on patient diagnosis and follow-up on their eff ectiveness.
- Provide basic surgical services such as suturing, incision and drainage, and wound care.
- Administer vaccines and provide preventative healthcare advice.
- Respond to emergency cases, stabilize patients, and initiate appropriate treatment or referrals.
- Educate patients and their families on disease prevention, treatment plans, and healthy
lifestyle choices. - Participate in institutional health promotion and disease prevention programs, including
organizing and conducting health talks and awareness campaigns. - Maintain accurate, detailed, and confi dential patient records, ensuring compliance with
institutional and government health regulations. - Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory technicians, to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care and operational improvements.
- Support institutional health initiatives and participate in community outreach activities as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare policies, regulations, and ethical standards in all clinical operations.
- Maintain and update knowledge of healthcare practices and advancements in medical treatment and diagnostics.
- At least a Diploma in Clinical Medicine or a related fi eld and those with a BSc in a relevant fi eld will have an added advantage.
- Must be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- At least 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in a hospital or health facility setting.
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work eff ectively under pressure and in emergencies.
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be
considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. Remuneration will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023) applicable to staff on fi xed-term contract.
