YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Scope of Work  
We are currently seeking two Climate Diplomacy Advisors – LDC support to be based in Lilongwe, Malawi to assist the ongoing work on LDC Group negotiation support, with a particular focus on providing support to the LDC Chair. This role will be under the supervision of the Head of the LDC Support Team and as part of the Climate Diplomacy Team.
The Climate Diplomacy Advisors – LDC support will assist the LDC Chair on a day-to-day basis for ongoing work related to LDC Group negotiation support. The work will require frequent communication with the LDC Chair’s office team, drafting memos, preparing briefings, as well as logistical coordination with relevant stakeholders. 

The key responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following activities listed below.

  • Support the office of the LDC Group Chair and its day-to-day activities.
  • Intensive contact and communication with the LDC Chair to support the regular work of the LDC Group at climate negotiations and in inter-sessional activities.
  • Facilitate the involvement of the LDC Chair and other representatives of the LDC Group in LDC meetings, regional climate gatherings, and other intersessional meetings, as well as UNFCCC meetings as needed.
  • Support LDCs in the climate negotiations by providing real-time analysis and policy support (oral briefs, talking points) that meets their special needs and requirements in the UNFCCC negotiation sessions.
  • Undertake research and consultations for preparation of briefing papers in response to requests from LDCs on specific areas of analysis in negotiation sessions and in-between sessions.
  • Assists in enhancing the LDC Group’s media engagement capacity and expanding its media outreach.
  • Assist with design, development and implementation of projects related to supporting climate change negotiations

YOUR PROFILE

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field, ideally environment or climate-related studies, such as environmental science, environmental management, natural resource management, climate science, social science;
  • Strong interest, expertise, and experience in climate change issues and international climate negotiations and/or climate and sustainable development issues relevant to LDCs and their relationship to international climate policy;
  • Experience with inter-disciplinary work and a profound interest in understanding and addressing regional and national challenges to climate change in LDCs;
  • Ability and expertise to summarise and translate scientific or policy texts into briefing papers for government officials and Ministers;
  • Ability to take responsibility, build and maintain positive relationships, value the opinion of others, and work in an advisory mode to country delegations;
  • A well-developed sense for teamwork and ability to interact with a diverse array of people;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, including writing and verbal skills;
  • Ability and flexibility to travel
