Lilongwe Water Board

The Lilongwe Water Board is a Statutory Corporation established in 1947 and re-constituted under the Water Works Act (Cap 72). It is responsible for the provision of water supply services to the City of Lilongwe and other surrounding areas designated as its supply area.<\/p>\n<p>The Board is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawian origin to fill the vacant position that exists within the Board.

CLERK OF WORKS (20 MONTHS CONTRACT)

Job Purpose

To assist in works inspections and community mobilization activities for sewage and onsite sanitation projects under the Lilongwe Water and Sanitation Project (LWSP).

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Construction Engineer, the Clerk of Works will be responsible for the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Inspecting construction work and comparing it with drawings and specifications
  • Verify all work schedules and site records
  • Participate in stage inspections and approvals
  • Follow up on all site technical issues
  • Initiate interface meetings with households, contractors, Grievance Redress Committees (GRC) and Consultant
  • Participate in measurement of works
  • Train households on technical matters such as mixes of materials
  • Monitoring progress and reporting to construction engineers
  • Identifying defects and suggesting ways to correct them
  • Keeping detailed records of work
  • Referring to plans and taking photographs of work, along with measurements and samples
  • Ensure construction work is being done in compliance with all relevant environmental, health and safety requirements.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of a Diploma in Civil Engineering or a City and Guilds Technician Diploma in Construction with 5 years experience in building works and a demonstrable knowledge of pro-poor/low-cost sanitation systems. A knowledge on the use of handheld GPS.
