World Relief Malawi is implementing a project titled “Mzimba Child Development and Protection”. This is a 3 years’ project which commenced on 1st June 2022 and is ending in May, 2025, targeting Traditional Authority Mbelwa in Mzimba district. World Relief Malawi, therefore is inviting applications from interested and qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Child Development and Protection Project Officer in Mzimba district.

Job Title: Child Development and Protection Project Officer (1 Position)

Reports to: Child Development and Families Strengthening Program Manager

Location: Mzimba boma, with frequent travels to T/A M’mbelwa

Role purpose

Reporting to the Child Development and Protection and Families Strengthening Program Manager, the Child Development and Protection Project Officer will ensure that all project related activities implemented by WRM in the targeted district contribute significantly towards the reduction of child abuse and neglect cases as well as increased access of children to quality early childhood development (ECD) services including Care for Child Development in the district. The responsible officer will work with other key stakeholders at district level who include: District Social Welfare, Child protection officers and other likeminded partners to ensure coordination of ECD and Child Protection activities in the district.The incumbent will assist in the coordination of project activities and resources including personnel and ensure achievement of project deliverables within agreed timeframes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the developement and implementation of project plans and budgets in collaboration with Program Manager, Community Facilitators and District Coordinators.
  • Coordination of field level human, financial and material resources of the project to ensure efficient resource allocation and utilization for all components;
  • In liaison with the Program Manager, facilitate quarterly project technical reviews and planning meetings with the Community Facilitators
  • Ensure that activity, monthly, quarterly and annual reports are in submitted in time;
  • Maintain close links with the appropriate Government Departments and other organisations (including NGO’s) implementing ECD, Care for Child Development and Child Protection related projects in the targeted districts to ensure complementarity and avoid duplication of efforts;
  • Provide overall supportive supervision of all CCD, Parenting and ECD and Child Protection training events planned in the project;
  • Ensure integration of the project activities with agriculture, village savings, church and community engagement initiatives in the targeted districts.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Early Childhood Development, Early Childhood Education, Gender and Family Studies, and any other Child Development related qualifications from well recognised and accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the field of ECD, Child Protection and/or community child care services
  • Those with experience of CCD, Parenting and youth programming will have an added advantage
  • Child Development leadership and project management
  • Ability to network and collaborate with district and community level stakeholders
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Readiness to work in remote rural areas
  • Ability to communicate with beneficiaries in their local languages
  • Computer Literacy
  • Commitment to World Relief Values, PSEA, Child Protection and other relevant policies
