Malawi National Council of Sports

Background
The Malawi National Council of Sports (Council) was established by statute to regulate and provide oversight of sports in Malawi.

Through the years, Council’s mandate has included matters of women and sports, professional sports, sports for people with disabilities, recreational sports as well as anti-doping within sport

The Council has developed a 5-year strategic plan and to effectively implement it, applications are invited for highly motivated, skilled and qualified Malawians to fill the following executive position:

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CS1)

Reporting to the Chairperson of the Board I Based at Council Offices in Blantyre

Job Summary:
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the head of the Council Secretariat. He/she is expected to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Council and provide supervision to all other staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the formulating of Council policies, strategies and annual programs
  • Interpret and implement Government policies relating to Sports and Recreation.
  • Coordinate Council activities and act as Advisor to the Board.
  • Liaise and conduct routine contacts with the appropriate Government and other authorities.
  • Secure networks with potential stakeholders for purposes of sports and recreation development.
  • Represent Council and Government interests at various sport and recreation forums.
  • Facilitate a conducive work environment for Council emplovees.
  • Initiate and participate in the formulation of appropriate organizational and management structures for assurance of optimal efficiency.
  • Mobilise resources for the Council
  • Regulate membership of sports associations in line with provisions of the Malawi National Council of Sports Act, Council Guidelines and the Sports Policy.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Sports Development, Sports Science, Business Management/ Administration, Strategic Planning, Public Administration or Finance from a recognised institution.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution
  • Not less than ten (10) years’ relevant managerial experience obtained after attaining the bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven track record and experience in sport management will be an advantage
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current leisure and sports development issues.
  • Ability to plan for long-term development
  • Excellent organisational, communication, written and presentation skills.

Terms and Conditions
The successful candidate will be appointed on a three-year contract which may be renewed once depending on performance. Remuneration and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
