Nyanthepa is a community radio based in Nsanje. Nyanthepa envisions a developed society with citizens that are productively contributing to the development of Nsanje district.
Nyanthepa is looking for a self-motivated, interactive, innovative and enthusiastic person to fill the position of a Chief Editor. This is a crucial role responsible for overseeing our news and current affairs department and ensuring the highest standards of editorial integrity.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee the news and current affairs department.
- Assign reporters to the field for news collection.
- Receive and edit written stories from reporters before they go on air.
- Ensure all content aligns with house style and journalistic ethics.
- Verify that all reporting equipment is available and functioning properly.
- Consult with sub-editors and provide coaching to reporters on news gathering, writing, and editing.
- Present the final copy of news to the Programs Manager for broadcast.
- Chair preparatory meetings within the newsroom.
- Maintain a daily work diary and produce monthly reports for the Programs Manager.
Skills Required
- Ability to lead a team effectively and inspire reporters.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to articulate ideas clearly.
- Meticulous in editing and ensuring accuracy in news stories
- Innovative thinking in news presentation and storytelling.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with editing software and broadcasting equipment.
- Adept at composing detailed analytical documents such as reports.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Diploma in Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree holders are encouraged to apply).
Experience:
- Proven experience in news editing, including familiarity with radio broadcasting standards.
