Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Chief Accountant for NASFAM Commodity Marketing Exchange Limited (NASCOMEX Limited), the commercial arm of NASFAM.

The Chief Accountant (CA) works as a key member of the NASCOMEX management team and is responsible for the smooth running of financial and administrative functions in NASCOMEX. S/he provides the necessary information to inform management decision making, to meet reporting requirements, and to provide narrative interpretation of financial information and proposals based on results for Executive Management and Board consideration.

In addition, the CA is required to strengthen and sustain NASCOMEX’s commercial performance, supporting financial components of long-term strategic and business planning; of short-term tactical plans; and in terms of pricing and cost control of immediate business activities.

The position is directly answerable to the Financial Controller and it is available at the NASCOMEX Head Office in Kanengo, Lilongwe.

Specific duties and responsibilities include;

  1. Prepare annual management and financial accounts including financial statements for auditing and on monthly basis prepare management accounts with analysis against budget and previous periods.
  2. Work with various Heads of departments to prepare annual budgets and monitor implementation of budgets in line with the annual trading plan.
  3. Develop monthly cash flow forecast, monitor on weekly basis against actual and manage debtors and creditors to ensure optimum working capital
  4. Review performance of individual products and make proposals to Executive Management regarding pricing and providing financial analysis and recommendations for trading options and strategies
  5. Manage seasonal (including tobacco programme financing), capital financing and provide financial reports as required and assist in price negotiations.
  6. Manage commodity buying systems, providing recommendations to management on buying price; monitoring association and buyer advances; and procurement liquidations
  7. Maintain stock ledgers, oversee stock management and reporting systems and manage fixed asset register
  8. Oversee tax planning and ensure that the company is compliant with any applicable tax regulations.
  9. Develop and continuously improve systems for internal financial control
  10. Supervise and manage the performance of the Finance members of staff

Experience and Qualifications

Professional:  The CA must be a qualified member of an internationally recognised accounting body, such as ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA.

Minimum Educational Qualification of a first degree in related field.

Experience: At least 7 years in a similar role.

 

Key Competencies and Skills

– Proven knowledge and experience of financial management and financial accounting including preparation of management accounts, annual accounts for auditing, financial statements and budgeting;

– Proven experience in managing organisation capital financing needs

– Proven experience in managing debtors and creditors to ensure optimum working capital

– Excellent experience and ability to develop buying and pricing strategies

– Ability to review product performance and make proposals to management regarding pricing

– Ability to develop and continuously improve systems for internal financial control

– Ability to provide financial analysis for trading options and strategies

– Must have knowledge and experience in stock management and related reporting systems

– Strategic management skills;

–  Strong communication skills;

– Team work and adaptability;

– Knowledge in tobacco programme financing is an added advantage
