EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence-based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 177 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) – funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.
Job Description
How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?
The Cervical Cancer Program Nurse will be responsible for coordinating and implementing cervical cancer screening and management of pre-cancerous lessons at various EGPAF-supported facilities. This role also ensures the integration of the cervical cancer program within HIV and AIDS services at both the facility and community levels.
No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?
1. Cervical Cancer Services:
- Deliver high-quality cervical cancer screening using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA).
- Provide appropriate care for women requiring further interventions, including treatment of cervical pre-cancers with cryotherapy or thermal coagulation.
- Strengthen referral and feedback systems to ensure women access necessary services such as histopathology, LEEP, and other surgical treatments.
- Ensure integration of HIV testing into the cervical cancer program and seamless follow-up of cervical cancer cases within the HIV program.
- Align program activities with Malawi’s national policies and guidelines.
- Implement quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) mechanisms within the cervical cancer program.
- Coordinate demand creation activities through health talks and community outreach.
- Support capacity building at the facility level through on-the-job training.
2. Leadership:
- Lead efforts to establish and strengthen referral and linkage systems within and beyond the facility, ensuring effective service delivery in collaboration with EGPAF and Ministry of Health (MOH) staff.
- Identify gaps in service delivery and work with stakeholders to ensure continuity of services.
3. Capacity Building:
- Organize workshops, orientations, and refresher courses on the cervical cancer program to keep providers updated on the latest practices, protocols, and guidelines.
4. Data Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and program activities.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor program performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare and submit timely reports to supervisors and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Diploma in nursing and midwifery.
- Over 3 years of experience in cervical cancer service provision.
- Additional experience in reproductive health, particularly in the context of HIV and AIDS, is an advantage.
