BREWERY ENGINEER
This position is based at the Lilongwe Brewery. The successful candidate will report to the Technical Director and manage the brewery’s engineering functions, including personnel, equipment, processes, and systems, to ensure product quality, safety, and operational efficiency. The role involves overseeing equipment maintenance, optimizing production processes, managing projects, and implementing systems to maintain high standards of productivity and cost efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop maintenance plans to minimize equipment downtime.
- Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance for plant equipment, facilities, and utilities.
- Identify and implement control systems to improve equipment efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with engineering, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot production-related issues.
- Collaborate with Operations Management on project planning and supervise implementation.
- Monitor project progress to ensure timely completion within budget constraints.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and development of engineering staff.
- Maintain discipline and foster motivation within the team.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, including fixed and capital expenditures.
- Monitor and control fuel, spare parts, and utility expenses within set budgets.
- Implement Asset Care and preventive maintenance systems per company guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, with maintenance personnel and contractors following safety procedures.
- Align all administrative duties with company policies.
- Support departmental goals to ensure alignment with the Operations Manager’s objectives.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and failure analysis, and implement prevention plans.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred). Additional certifications in Maintenance Planning or Project Management are advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering role within a manufacturing or production environment, in a supervisory or management position, preferably in the brewing industry.
- Knowledge of electronic engineering management tools.
- Knowledge of PLCs.
- Strong technical knowledge of plant operations and maintenance.
