VACANCY: BEEF PRODUCTION MANAGER

Demeter Farm is a farm in the meat production industry with a beautiful, well managed ranch, a first-class abattoir and butchery situated along the banks of Shire River in Balaka. The Farm is situated approximately 35km from Liwonde and also has 2 retail outlets in the capital city Lilongwe selling beef under its brand Balaka Beef.

Demeter Farm is looking for an ambitious and motivated candidate to join their team as a Beef Production Manager based on the Farm. The candidate’s responsibilities would include managing the cattle herd, the feedlot, the abattoir and the butchery.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Degree or Diploma in Agriculture and Business Management is desirable.
• Age range 25 – 50
• Experience in the management of a large beef production unit.
• Experience in a senior management position.
• Experience at well and run successful farms with verifiable references from previous managers and farm owners.
• Computer skills must include a good level of competence in Excel and word.
• The applicant must also be strong in their understanding of farm systems, administration, and budgeting, as he will be expected to take an active role in the farm’s administrative and budget management. However, the farm is supported by a qualified financial controller and administration staff who are there to assist accordingly.
• The candidate must be conversant with animal feed formulation and cattle health and veterinary practices.
• Experience in the production of fodder crops such as sorghum and maize – Experience in game ranching would be positively considered.
