National Water Resources Authority

The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) is a statutory organization established by the Water Resources Act of 2013 with a specific function to regulate and manage water
resources. Furthermore, the NWRA seeks to ensure the sustainable use of water resources
and address the water resources planning, development and management challenges.

In its effort to sustainably manage water resources, the NWRA seeks to recruit energetic,
highly motivated, focused and result-oriented individuals to form part of its NWRA members of staff. In this regard, NWRA invites applications from suitable qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position:

Purpose of the job
To manage and operate the Kamuzu Barrage gates with the assistance of the barrage manager

Key Duties:

    1. Operate the gates on daily basis according to the strategies
    2. Prepare document that the Barrage and its operations are in proper condition and fulfils all safety requirements
    3. Ensure that the equipment is clean and safe to use
    4. Undertake suer flow measurements together with the hydrologists
    5. Daily recording of the river flow and level measurements both from the manual and
      automatic gauge station
    6. Carry out the trouble shooting of the Barrage systems
    7. Identify faults and carry out minor maintenance on the barrage gates
    8. Closer Monitor the water levels/flows during the flooding period and report accordingly
    9. Monitor and report on Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (HSE);
    10. Ensure sound external communications on matters of public safety

Qualifications/requirements

    • Diploma in engineering or ICT fields. Those with certificate in engineering backed by three (3) years’ experience in operating of the barrage may also apply,

Additional Skills and Abilities

    • Skills in the installation of barrage gates;
    • Ability to measure flow of water and also gauge installations
    • Knowledge of the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
    • Skills in the operation of automated systems
    • Skills Information Communication and Technology
