The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resoces (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the following vacant posts in various establishments of the University.
ASSISTANT COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation of engaging content for various communication channels, including press releases, newsletters, social media, and the university’s website.
- Collaborate with different departments to gather information and contribute to the development of compelling stories.
- Aid in cultivating relationships with media outlets and preparing materials such as press releases and media kits.
- Support the coordination of media inquiries, interviews, and monitoring of media coverage.
- Support the management of the university’s social media presence, ensuring consistency in messaging and brand representation.
- Monitor social media platforms, engage with the audience, and assist in responding to inquiries and comments.
- Assist in the promotion of university events through various channels to maximize attendance and engagement.
- Collaborate with the Communications Officer and event organizers to create promotional materials and campaigns.
- Assist in implementing internal communication strategies to keep staff, faculty, and students informed about university news, policies, and events.
- Contribute to the facilitation of communication between different departments to promote a cohesive organizational culture.
- Support the Communications Officer in upholding and enhancing the university’s brand through consistent messaging and visual representation.
- Monitor and report any instances of brand misrepresentation or misuse.
- Creating compelling narratives and strategically sharing content to enhance the visibility of the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by relevant authorities.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, Journalism or a related field.
- Proven experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic experience in managing social media accounts for organizations.
- Ability to assist in creating compelling content for different audiences and channels.
- Basic knowledge of media relations practices, including drafting press releases and handling media inquiries.
- Understanding of brand management principles and a commitment to upholding and enhancing the university’s brand.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
- Organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with higher education institutions is a plus.
Terms and Conditions of Engagement
All the successful candidates will be engaged on an initial 2-year contract before they can be considered for permanent appointment based on satisfactory performance. Remuneration
will be in line with LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service applicable to staff
on fixed-term contract.
